The MyBB Pit Bull attack thread

When they bite and start shaking their heads like that that's when things are getting bad, they use that shake mechanism to rip off meat and break off limbs/bones. One bullet one pit bull 🙁

In Cape Town unfortunately I've noticed increasingly that owning a pitbull has become a kind of fashion item amongst some people in the coloured community. I've seen groups of young men all with their pitbulls in tow, I’d wager the majority would have no way of controlling their dogs if things got out of control.

I have a different theory on that.

One of the problems is that gun ownership for ordinary citizens is very difficult due to very strict licensing, and yet despite that, there is a huge crime problem. So what do normal people do to defend themselves and family? Get a mean looking dog, which requires absolutely no permission whatsoever.

A wave of recent dog attacks has thrust pedestrian safety into the spotlight and reignited debate over dog owner responsibility.

Last week, The Witness reported on an Azalea grandmother who rushed into a pack of attacking dogs and fought them off with her bare hands to save her five-year-old grandson, who is now recovering from life-threatening injuries.

Three families attacked by their own dogs in KZN within days

THREE separate dog attack incidents in KwaZulu Natal have left multiple family members seriously injured.

The attacks, including one by a pitbull and another involving five dogs, highlight the growing risks of pet aggression in household settings

On Tuesday night, a Phoenix man sustained serious injuries after his pet pitbull attacked him, while it was interacting with family members at his home in Rockford.
Gareth Naidoo, the head of KZN VIP Emergency Services, said their medical teams responded to multiple urgent requests for assistance following the incident.

“Upon arrival, our teams established that a homeowner had been attacked and mauled by a pet pitbull while interacting with family members. The victim sustained severe injuries and was reported to be in a critical condition. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, he was transported to a medical facility by neighbours prior to emergency services arriving on scene."

Naidoo said a second person also sustained injuries, while attempting to free the victim from the dog, and also required medical attention.

"It is further alleged that this is the second such incident at the residence following a previous attack involving an elderly family member. Reports indicate that the family had previously sought assistance regarding the dog following the earlier incident but were unsuccessful in securing intervention."

In a separate incident on Monday, a pet mixed breed dog attacked four family members in Bonela.

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said when paramedics arrived, the dog had been locked inside the house.

“Four members of the household were attacked. The mother and son are in a critical condition. They were rushed to a nearby hospital before the paramedics could arrive. Two other family members sustained minor bites to their lower legs and were assessed on the scene. However, they refused to go to hospital,” said Jamieson.

In the third incident, on Sunday, Jamieson said they were called out to Yellowwood Park, south of Durban, where a man in his 30s was attacked by five dogs.

“The man sustained multiple bites to his entire body and was in a critical condition. The man resides on the same premises."

Just ban the breed.
Or stop doing this?
“The problem with that is once you teach a dog to be aggressive, it is hard to contain that aggression,” she said.

“I know a lot of people get dogs to be watchdogs and, consequently, avoid socialising their animals — exposing them to different people, animals and environments,” she said.

Teach dogs properly and they'll act properly. They are just animals, teaching any breed to be aggressive makes it harder to unteach it. Pitbulls are just capable of hurting people cause of their breeding.

A Mitchells Plain woman has been mauled to death by her dogs, raising concerns about public safety and calls for stricter controls around dangerous dogs.

Police confirmed that SAPS members were called to a premises in Maralize Street, Morgenster, at about 1.53pm last Tuesday, following a complaint of a dog attack.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, officers were informed that the victim had been attacked by her own two dogs inside her backyard.
