The neighbour's dog..

And often it lays under the tree, vaguely gazing in all directions and just barks.

Sounds like that dog does not get enough attention and exercise. I have 3GSD's and you will not know it unless you see them. Only time they bark is if there is somebody they do not know on my property. They will not even bark if a stranger stands at the gate, they never chase their food away.... :D

now with mine the kids used to throw stones at him and stuff so alot of kids walk pass the gate so he goes mad

so if he grips one of them one day cant blame him

I would like to see someone pop their head over my wall to tell my dogs to be quiet, let alone point a water gun..
Told an old neighbour once " why not come in, and get to know my 66kg mastiff..." hehehehe!

The by-law is against "incessant" barking.. 10mins of non-stop barking.
I have yet to hear ANY dog ANYWHERE that can bark for 10mins non-stop!

Really :erm:

And dogs hate water.

I recently had the police ring my doorbell and hand me a letter stating there had been a complaint from one of my neighbors about our barking dogs. They give you the notice and say if you don't comply then the dogs will get taken away - after a lengthy process.

So I called the neighbors and asked them about the dogs. They all denied reporting it but one of them gave me very specific details of when the dogs bark and at what etc so go figure.

I would have really appreciated a normal conversation instead of police arriving at the house and making the kids cry because the dogs are being taken away. All we had to do was move a fence and the dogs can't see the road so don't bark anymore.

The neighbor would didn't report it but knew all the specifics of the barking seems to have lots more dog poop in their yard these days.

Also keep an eye out, dogs don't generally bark for nothing.

I call BS on this. The same with oversensitive car alarms that goes off every 20 minutes just because the wind started blowing or a cat jumped up on the hood.

I'd call the neighbor every time the dog barks, whatever time of night it might be. And put the phone down as they answer. You lost sleep, so should they.

You really haven't lived anywhere with dogs before huh? I had dogs barking non-stop for 2 hours, from the little ones to the big ones. However, big dogs do tend not to bark as much, but if the little dog doesn't stfu, the big one gets annoyed and starts barking too

yappers can be annoying- given!

but non-stop for 10 minutes straight?
why do people use terms like "non-stop" or "24/7" etc if they do not understand the meaning of them?

So the norm is for dogs to always bark excessivly? Or did you miss the words don't generally?

If it's excessive then the owner needs to handle it but there could also be underlying reasons as well. We had dogs for over 30 years and they don't just bark at nothing unless they're badly trained or been encouraged to do as much.

Dogs bark when they see ghosts. That's why they bark so much. oooooooooo.

Sorry if my reality interferes with your theoretical rules of a dog's barking endurance. If you still don't believe it's possible, you're more than welcome to crash here for a weekend. If you then still have trouble believing the reality, you're going to have to find help elsewhere.

F.Y.I. Got home at 11pm, dog down the street was barking on 1-2sec intervals, when I went out again after midnight he was still at it. According to my neighbour that side the dog didn't bother to take breaks in between. (Luckily I can't hear that dog from inside my house)

What I found worked for me with the neighbours dogs, go outside and 2 loud hand claps when the dogs bark. Took me about a week and they stopped barking.

I hope that one day you have the pleasure. My neighbour's dogs can bark continously for 45 minutes, have a 15 minute break, and resume.

Fill a 2 litre Coke* bottle with water and put it in the yard.

*yes, it has to be Coke and not just any soft-drink.
