Has anyone seen this at take2??!! I already placed my pre-order, can't wait for it to be released.

You can already download it from the news server, but this is one of those special movies that must be owned

I saw the original movie (directors cut) and didn't see the facination with it.
I did however own the Westwood game (still do) and I thought that was awesome.

As they say Gothan, each to their own! :)

@gdiza

But that is the entire premise of the boxset. The Directors cut, was not really the directors cut. Ridley Scott was busy with another project and send someone to do the "directors cut", which is not the "original movie" by the way.

The "original" was the theatrical release, which had the harrison ford voice over as well as the happy ending, this version, Ridley Scott hated with a passion as he was completely locked out of the editing sessions, and the studio felt the people (dumb @sses) would not get the story, therefore they added the voice overs, and they also felt the movie was a bit dark (double dumb @sses)

This box set, contains the "Final Cut", which was actually edited by Ridley Scott and some partners, that actually contains extra scene that delve more into the story.

But yes, to each his own

Great movie but how many times are they going to release it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versions_of_Blade_Runner

Well I think till Ridley Scott is happy, it is "his" interpretation of the book anyways.

Its no secret that Harrison Ford, hated making the movie, as he was locked into a contract, and was forced to star in it. But I think his total lack of interest actually enhances his performance as an indifferent dis-illusioned detective (eat your heart out ebert!!)

Well it is so different from the book in any case, so i don't really know whether i care.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

Blade Runner is my all-time fave movie, and its soundtrack was done by the musician I most respect.
I watch it about once a year and it is still the best science fiction movie ever made.

Tales of the Future, Memories of Green, Rachel's Song... and of course, One More Kiss, bwahaha... :p

Anyway, I'm getting this set, so thanks for telling us about it.
Cheers

I have the Final cut version which comes with a documentary on the making of the film and it is a wonder that the film ever got made with the production issues that Ridley Scott had.

Yes it is, where PKD concentrated more on the religious and moral aspects of humanity, the movie concentrates more on the environment in which people find themselves.

As stated on the following site http://www.concatenation.org/articles/bladerunner_do_androids_dream_of_electric.html
Arguably what we are left with is Blade Runner being a good Dickian film but a poor adaptation of the original novel. In short, in one sense there is room for a proper cinematic version of Do Androids Dream. 'In one sense' because Blade Runner has been so successful that any adaptation would undoubtedly have to emerge from Blade Runner's shadow and that in itself would be a difficult feat to achieve

And its actually not fair to compare the movie to the book, actually its more factual to say the book inspired the movie

But they did show some of the special effects to PKD just before his death, and after seeing that he fully endorsed the movie, saying that they captured the look and feel of LA 2019 exactly as he had pictured it

I know you all were just dying to know more about my blade runner order (common admit it), so yes it arrived yesterday, and WOW!!!!

Two thumbs up for the digital restoration of the material, the colours look amazing. I own the directors cut, and that was releashed in 92, even before the days of DVD, so the colour was not 100%

I started with the "making of" (I am saving the 5 different versions for the weekend), and its amazing the amount of crap the people had to go to through to make this movie. I also want to make a super cool movie dangit!!!

got my second Blu-Ray set yesterday .... the first set (the collectors edition with flash cards, and a scale model of a car was stolen when they burgled my place last year) .... and the DVD didn't do it for me at all .... but Yeah!!!! got it though (not the Collectors edition though) ....
Yes, the movie is based on like in 10% of the book, but each one in it's own context. I personally consider the "Final Cut" to be the best SF movie ever made.

Am having a Blade Runner weekend, starting tonight with the workprint (and because the wife lost a bet, she is forced to watch with me! And there will be a test afterwards), and then work my way up to the final cut. Can't wait to watch the international theatrical release, because that was the version I saw back in 86 on vhs

Yeah the movie only shares some broad themes with the book, mainly some of the characters and the idea of replicants. Personally I prefer the movie (after having seen it first), I do not like the deckard character from the book that much.

The movie concentrates more on the replicants side (what qualifies us to be human and therefore above the rest).

Its actually amazing when you watch the making of, to see how many things from the script they did not use due to budget constraints
