The Nissan Micra Thread

Let's not pussyfoot around & have a meaningful discussion. I'll start.

In it's 1st month of sales new Micra pulled in 308 units.

That excellent, why?

- only a 3 model range
- only 1 engine option
- fokol automatic derivatives
- fokol diesel derivatives
- bog-standard B-segment pricing

Next few months will be interesting on this front to say the least.

Personally it's a good car, limited range aside.

Manual rear windows & no climate control on any model is a kaka one though.
 
Watched a bit of a YouTube comparison between a Clio and Micra - in Dutch - the guy had much more headroom space in the Clio than the Micra ( basically touched if I recall)

Hence my outrage, Nissan thinks it's okay to pay R272k for winding rear windows. The Corsa and the Clio does not cost that much.

People will still buy it I know, but only because South African buy cars and only discover later that it was overpriced mediocrity.

Compare the entry level Polo , Micra , Corsa , Yaris and Fiesta on price point and safety features and decide who falls short - it is pretty obvious ...

As you put it: 308 units were pulled in.
The fact of the matter is that the dealers only sold 106 units.
The rest went to rental and single unit unit sales. Often sales to rental companies have a twofold purpose. Firstly, in the case of new models is to get exposure to prospective buyers. Secondly, sales to rental companies can be regarded as a dumping ground for runout models.

I'm not so anti manual rear windows. In my own experience I hardly ever have the need to open a rear window. It is indeed very seldom that I have rear seat passengers (I have many back seat drivers!)

I took the time to do just that, I removed the entry level Fiesta as it is way more expensive than all the others, so it won't be a fair comparison. Added the Clio instead.

The Yaris fall short of all the others, only two airbags compared to the 6 for the Corsa, Polo, Micra and 4 for the Clio. Other safety features are similar with the exception of traction control which both the Polo and the Clio have.

The Clio being the least expensive of all the others is a winner in my opinion, The Micra can't be faulted on this front, the pulled all the stops.

Shame on Toyota.

Yip. The Yaris falls short on safety and the Fiesta on price. I really don't see the reason why anyone would consider the Fiesta given the price comparison.

At R 211 900 the Clio Authentique is an absolute bargain.

Technically the fiesta doesn't have an entry level model.

Total sales for July dropped to 205.
Unfortunately I don't have the breakdown to see how many went to fleet sales.
 
Nissan has launched the 2018 Micra in India with new features. The updated model comes at a starting price of Rs. 5.03 lakh (ex-showroom).

Safety features like dual airbags, driver seat belt warning indicator, speed warning indicator and rear parking sensors are now offered as standard on both the 2018 Micra and Micra Active.

Both models get ORVMs with turn signals and a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with phone mirroring.

Additionally, the 2018 Micra gets a rear spoiler and a rear-view camera.

The 2018 Micra Active is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 104 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The 2018 Micra is available with either petrol or diesel engines. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol makes 76 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 104 Nm @ 4,400 rpm and is mated to a CVT. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel puts out 63 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 160 Nm @ 2,000 rpm. It comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
