The new X-Trail is built on the same Renault/Nissan/Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-C platform, the same that underpins the new Qashqai which was recently introduced in South Africa.
What’s on offer?
The new Nissan X-Trail is powered by a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine which produces 135 kW and 244 Nm. The vehicle is front-wheel driven and features a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Nissan South Africa will be offering in the new X-Trail in a 3-model model lineup. There are three trim levels; Visia, Acenta and Acenta Plus. It’s important to note the Acenta Plus flagship is available in four-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive model is a 7-seater vehicle, whereas the standard X-Trail is a 5-seater.
The e-Power powertrains for both the Nissan Qashqai and the new X-Trail are confirmed for 2024. Customers have five basic colours, five colour variations and two-tone combinations to choose from.

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?
“It isn’t going to set the world on fire, but it has been pretty carefully crafted”
The latest version of the X-Trail looks much less like its Qashqai sibling these days, but has borrowed a lot, and retains the useful traits of practical day to day family usability and economy.
Seven-seaters by their nature are expensive to run, so anyone in the market for one will be grateful for the added economy boost from the hybrid set-up. It’s a crowded end of the market, though, and buyers will want to be sure to shop around before committing to the Nissan.

The fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail is being launched in Mzansi this week, featuring sharper exterior styling and a significantly modernised cabin.
Built on the new CMF-C platform that’s also shared with the recently introduced third-gen Qashqai, the new Nissan X-Trail makes use of more lightweight materials than ever before, with the doors, fenders and bonnet now made from aluminium.
Three models will be offered locally and they’re all powered by an upgraded, but still normally aspirated, 2.5-litre petrol engine, and the outgoing model’s 2.0-litre base motor has fallen away.
Pricing starts at R649 900 for the 2.5 Visia CVT, moving up to R709 900 for the midrange 2.5 Acenta CVT and topping out at R759 900 in Acenta Plus CVT 4x4 guise.
