Australia 527/7d & 172/7d
England 368 & 35/3 (20.0 ov)
England require another 297 runs with 7 wickets remaining

Lunch - Day 5

1.05pm: How's the ticker? Australia have shown plenty of it and continue to push aggressively in this match, pursuing a victory for the ages - given their form going into this match; given the time lost and poor forecast; and notwithstanding England's delaying tactics and apparent desire to play for a draw.

It's raining per the status of match on CricInfo. Why do they play Cricket in England?

Edit:

1.55pm Good news (for Australia) the rain has relented and the players are coming back out for a 2pm restart. It's very gloomy and there is rain around the ground, with a good splodge coming up the country. But for now, we're back out and Australia need to use all the time they've got. Peter Siddle from the Statham End...

2.05pm Clarke having a word with Bell but he deserves some treatment here. And now it's raining pretty hard so they're going off. And from where the weather is coming from it's very dark. All the sheets are coming on...

Cricket in England

Really frustrating. Who knows how the game would have ended there had been more time in the middle today. Will never know now. Just frustrating that the Poms are allowed to escape because of their weather. Arrrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!

/rant off

I guess this is the way the cookie crumbles and, yeah, Aussies should have performed better in the previous two games.

:(

Typical lucky escape for them. Now they'll whine on about how Bell would have saved them anyway...

Did you F*****g w@nkers not get saved by the rain recently against the windies in the champions trophy to get to the semis ???

From an English point of view, it's not nice to end the third test like this, but it happens.

Compared to how often it happens in favour of the Pommies, there is simply no comparison. They are arrogant c0cks and got f*****g lucky. Again.
This is the only time the rain has ever saved SA. Even then, it's not as if we were going to lose. We had the upper hand in the game anyway. AND, SA is not arrogant.

Stop being so sour (some Englishman must have f***** you up good and proper judging by your posts) , before this 3rd test, Aus where already 2/0 down and rain always has to be considered in England.

The fact that they were 2-0 down and about to win this crucial one, makes my point even stronger.

As you were.

If it's such a problem in England, then set aside a reserve day. Won't happen, cos then England can't play for the draws they love so much :p

Should be mandatory in the UK. That or they play all future tests in the UAE ;)

England nearly ran away with the T20 competition recently as well, due to rain. Thankfully, there was a cricket God that had some sense.

It's was an ODI reduced to a T20 due to rain, which actually suited India.

Back on topic, England have retained the Ashes, so soak it up lads, better luck with your Aus team next time round.

Price of success. A decade ago they all loathed Aus and cheered on the Poms

Congrats, England deserved to win the Ashes. I unfortunately just can't cheer for a team with Broad in it...

And at the same time I'm deeply scarred for having had to cheer for the Aussies...it will take me some time to heal psychologically.

LOL - you deserve the scarring - traitor - Australia is the REAL enemy.

At worst you should have remained neutral.

Well done pommies.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend :D

Eh? There were three remaining matches before this one. Concluding they deserve to win it this soon into the series is a stretch.

England completely outplayed the Aussies in the first two tests.

Did just enough to make sure that AUS will have an uphill battle if they ever wanted to regain the Ashes.
