The Official Ashes 2013 Thread - ENG vs AUS

Rodgers somehow still at the crease. How many runs has he scored from genuine shots? 10 maybe

I was always of the opinion that Shane Watson is better suited to be a number 6 batsman in tests, and if he can bowl 15overs per innings he will fulfill his potential and be a world class all rounder.

You and pretty much everybody else who is not Australian. Done well this innings. these two are starting to take the game away from the Poms

I want rogers to get a century and cement his place in the aussie team.

If you look at his first class record, it's mind bogling how he was not selected earlier. Average 50, 92x50 60x100

I dunno seems average at best. Seemingly only divine intervention has kept him at the crease this innings. How he brought up his 50 was indicative of how things have gone for him. Credit too him though he has taken full advantage of it.

Some players are just brilliant at domestic level but are found out at international level. Its a massive step up as Strauss alluded to the other day. Graham Hick springs to mind.

He has had luck on his side today, and sometimes you need it. He also made 80odd in the Manchester test.

Also mark ramprakash comes to mind.

I agree some players are unable go from domestic to international, but he has scored close to 20 000 first class runs, the fact that he is only given the opportunity now is what is puzzling to me.

I know he will play for the next 2 years, because he is experienced and knows his game.

Players usually struggle when they get selected too early, they don't know their game yet, they don't perform, get dropped, come back etc

lolz yes Ramprakash. Watching him was just painful. One can sympathise county cricket then was woeful and can only imagine going from facing those bowlers to Australia's attack at the time.

Michael Bevan was also a run machine but failed at test level although granted he excelled at ODIs.

I think only Bell and Clarke have actually scored more runs than Rodgers so far

Michael Atherton said this morning rogers scored 20 the entries in England, meaning he scored 40 centuries in Australia.

With that info in mind, I expect him to do even better when they go to Australia.

Harris to Bell, OUT, length ball and cleans up Bell totally castled. That jagged back sharply and kept low, Bell couldn't get down and across to it in time and it took the inside edge onto middle stump, not a great deal you can do with that, this new ball is flying around. Harris putting it in the right area again and the ball did the rest

IR Bell b Harris 113 (254m 210b 11x4 0x6) SR: 53.80

This opens up a small opportunity for the Aussies to get back into the game. Great innings again by Bell.

Harris to Prior, OUT, got him first ball! Off stump out of the ground, again there's sharp movement in off the seam, this actually bounces a little bit, Prior was blocking from the crease around off stump but got beaten completely, it came off his elbow and cannoned into off stump, Prior's lean run continues, five wickets for Harris

MJ Prior b Harris 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Another. Consecutive balls for Harris. No hat trick, but heck, that puts this game back on course for resolution.

He has almost twice as many runs as the next pom in the series.

Game is constantly swinging to either side's favour
