The Official CLASSIC Mini Thread

You'll be surprised how spacious a mini is. It was actually designed with space in mind, and fuel efficiency. Even things like the welding seams are on the outside of the car to create more space.

For those that don't know, the mini was the first front wheel drive car. Up until the mini was designed, the engine was back to front, with the gearbox behind it. The designers of the mini put the engine left to right, and put the gearbox underneath the engine to connect to the front wheels. That created a lot more space. They specifically wanted 4 adults to fit in it.
Even before cars like the Citroën 2CV (which came out a good ten years before the Mini)?

Nicholas-Joseph Cugnot, a French inventor, was experimenting with steam-powered contraptions for transporting cannons and heavy equipment for the French Army when he came up with the three-wheeled fardier à vapeur – or steam cart – in 1771.

Its instability and limited top speed of 2.25 mph (3 km/h) stopped it from really catching on. But the vehicle, powered by a boiler mounted just ahead of the cart that drove the single front wheel, was arguably the first front-wheel drive vehicle, as well as perhaps the first-ever car.

Must be the 1st Mini.

:p

The car looks cool, never seen one like it before. How old is it?

New solenoid, and the car starts by the ignition. Good day 1.

Needs a little bit of timing check, and still needs the breaks checked.

I'm working on it today. Have to check the ignition, bleed/adjust the brakes, and check the timing.

It won't be the last time you have to fiddle with the brakes :-)

Will your weber fit in the mini?

Usually factory fitted they came out with SU carbs, but many had Webers fitted afterward, for a bit more power.
