Never got to buy?
Yeah, an Uncle had a stunning red one and he sold it without realising that I would be interested - would have been a sweet ride for a 19 year old me![]()
Even before cars like the Citroën 2CV (which came out a good ten years before the Mini)?
true ... not the first

It's a 1983 model. Think it was the last model Leyland South Africa built.
Mini's was build up to 2000. The last one's even had airbags and fuel injection.
Thread Renamed!
Thanks to whichever mod that was![]()
So, who else has a classic Mini? Mine's a 1962 Morris Mini. 850 motor, and I'm (rather slowly) stripping it for a rebuild.
Naais one, quite classic. Take some pics and share here, and as you progress in the rebuild.
How do you intend to restore it? Close to original as possible? Or tweak a little? Or a lot?
Nice...
I want to own a decent Mini at least once in my life, they're great little cars.
It's like a Land Rover, you have to own one at least once in your life.
I prefer original. Especially with something that is becoming rare. There are a couple of things which have probably been changed (it's got the Aussie doors on for example), but the first priority is to get it stripped and sort the body work out. Then I'll rebuild it mostly with the parts as is, and if I have any money left over I might start swapping out anything non-original.
How much did you pay for it?
Is it just a rolling chassis? Or do you at least have something of a motor in there?
