The official running thread™

"With current government guidelines in South Africa allowing for gatherings of up to 500 people in open spaces such as parks, we are delighted to be able to announce that some more 5k events in South Africa will be able to restart from Saturday 9 October.

Given the current legal gathering limits, we won’t be in a position to return all remaining events across the country on the same day. However, based on the evidence and insight so far from reopening more than 1,700 events around the world, we are comfortable that the events we are able to restart will not be overwhelmed by significantly-increased attendances.

We have identified 78 5k events which, subject to landowner approval and the completion of relevant checklists, will be able to restart from 9 October. We are in the process of informing all event teams of their current position, and we hope and expect we will be able to restart more events in the weeks that follow.

Importantly, many of our teams would benefit from building their volunteer community. Please check out the future roster on your local event’s website, look out for any social media requests for help, sign-up to volunteer emails and grasp the opportunity to experience the joy of volunteering if you can.

We can’t wait to welcome you back to parkrun."
Out of pure desperation, those night "trail" runs in JHB might become very appealing. The risk of Covid spread is reduced in these open air events. Bringing the norm back one race at a time :)

So yeah, seems the key to VO2Max on Apple Health, is to increase your pace. If I'd known, I'd never have logged the easier runs in the first place. Seems more isn't always better. :)
Me and my neighbour had to cut a bike ride short after 2 of my spokes gave in, we just took it easy on the quickest route back home, we looked at each other and said "don't save the ride" - F'ing Strava manipulating us...

I like those night trails. If you're a kit freak you also get to splash on a Gucci head torch and have a little 'who's got the best head torch' side competition with the other kit freaks. (I've found the Energizer head torches are good affordable options - I use the red one which I think is 200 Lumens and it's fine for trails.)

It's a shame that they haven't implemented some kind of booking system so that all Park Runs could go ahead within the restrictions on gatherings. I know they're a not for profit but I'm sure this wouldn't necessarily be excessively costly to do - alternatively they could try to partner with a business like Entry Ninja or Quicket for whom it would be a good way to drive traffic to their sites so it would be a win-win.

Yip but it's also good to see Cross Country Championships has gone ahead. Hopefully come October they'll be further relaxed with the Parkrun. I'm sure there'll be one close by.

Did any of you do the Boroughs of Bedford this weekend? Damn it was lekker to be running with other people again! Dint do toooo bad. 1:37 on a 15 is not great but better than expected. My HR is still messing around, went up to 193 BPM as I was going up Kloof...

Was doing my own little 16k unaware of Boroughs and then met the runners at Oriel Park going in the opposite direction. Looked like a tough route as well, mostly uphill so good time there.

I see Tough One 32km is going ahead end of November, limited to 1500, entries opened yesterday. Not doing that.

A lady in my office did this event, she was stoked about the vibe she felt. I miss the running events.

Something to look forward to in October....

The route wasnt tooo bad. Obviously kloof rd added some spice to it, but I found it much easier than the Dischem 21 that we used to do
