The official running thread™

We have identified 78 5k events which, subject to landowner approval and the completion of relevant checklists, will be able to restart from 9 October.

The route wasnt tooo bad. Obviously kloof rd added some spice to it, but I found it much easier than the Dischem 21 that we used to do
Dischem 10-15k is basically non stop climbing with one big surprise in store.
Im near Big Fred - exactly the same net elevation and distance as Polly Shortts. Popular comrades training route.

Not a fan of Adidas to start but this is just plain ridiculous. Running heels?

Looks like these are the sort of things elite runners would buy to shave seconds off their marathon time...

  • Regular fit
  • Lace closure
  • Celermesh 2.0 upper
  • Carbon heel plate
  • Energy rods

Not sure what energy rods are but they sound pricey...

Big shoes will get you disqualified.
Ethiopia's Derara Hurisa won the Vienna City marathon on Sunday but was disqualified soon after when the soles of his shoes were found to be one centimetre too thick in violation of the rules.

Big shoes will get you disqualified.
Was wearing the Adizero X and in full Adidas kit I assume he's getting sponsored by them.
Strange he'd take that risk since I'm sure he was aware of the rules.

Have you run it before? Do you think qualifying marathons will change their dates?
Not yet, bucket list.
CT Marathon already going ahead as planned and so is the best qualifier to run - Kaapsehoop in Nelspruit a month from now.
Other top qualifier is Johnson Crane in Feb so unless something critical like a 4th wave hits, won't be delayed which would cancel the Comrades, so moot.
Soweto marathon which usually takes place in November is the toughest and most don't use it as a qualifier anyway so looks like it's staying cancelled.

Idea is to qualify early and then use 2 Oceans as a training run which I suspect will take place in May/June.

All 200 plus Parkruns to open by the end of the month.

Well, finally managed to "up-size" my running shoes and my toes are happier for it. Amusingly, now it's a matter of choosing and alternating between the smaller shoes that crush my toes (actually just two middle toes) but are kinder to my knees or the new ones which spare the toes but are a bit harder on the joints.

My nearest opens next weekend

Way overdue tbh

Nice
How did you find out?

As far as I know, no Parkruns will open in Johannesburg this weekend.

They have a fb page they use to post pics, requests for volunteers etc

They were due to open this weekend but something must have changed

According to one of the directors there was a bit of panic at the meeting since 18months of paperwork needed to be done before next batch can open, so I'm assuming many due to start on the 9th might be delayed till next weekend.
