The official running thread™

Did the Hip MRI scan yesterday and saw the doctor. There's a few things , nothing major but surgery ( Hip arthroscopy ) is required where I have a labral hip tear.

Such a relief when you finally find out what's been causing all the issues for so long. Doctor didn't necessarily say it was due to overtraining but could be a result of my structural positioning when going fast on downhills for example.

Either way, it's time to get it fixed and then wait and then build super slowly to be stronger than before.

I was just thinking about you this am... 2027 maybe?

I increased my V02 max from 37 to 41 since I started running in May(Yeah I know it's still bad xD). Now I am wondering how much work I will need to do to get in that blue zone  o_O

I have my first half marathon on the 5th July. Any suggestions on what to do in the week leading up to it? I assume just a "little".

Honestly running is weird. I compared the same 21k I did in two consecutive years the other day. First one I did my normal runs, ran sub 25 Park Run the day before and ended up with a sub 2 hour half. No gels no fokoli. Just what I got from the roadside which was coke and water.

Following year I followed a training plan, rested, hydrated, carried gels, no park run the day before etc. Ended up 2:07. I sometimes wonder if we don't over complicate things.

One thing I have realised though. Running slower has made me slower.

Do you think this could be down to pacing strategy?

Turns out Zone 2 is a shuffle for me
Define shuffle pace. I know 8:00 was torture for me when I started out. Now zone 2 is around 6:30.

It can take months so don't get discouraged. Normally it's quick initially and then 1 point improvement is a matter of months.

My foot felt much better today. Considered going for that VO2Max run today, but I'm going to do the wise thing and give myself a full 3 days of no running to heal properly.
