The official running thread™

That's always annoying when it happens. I like to end in round numbers.

Don't be an idiot like me and remember to ease back into things gradually.
It's super annoying! I have also made the mistake of reading lap # as a km#. If that makes sense

What does that mean though?

What's the difference between missing cut off and not adhering to cut off? Maybe ignoring the marshals and continuing to the end after cutoff.

Either way, I see the times are very generous. 6 hours for the marathon. So they do have a point. If can't reach 42km in 6 hours, you really have no business in an a ultra.
I have not seen this before, but yeah, perhaps a "bus" continues on-route after the marshals cut the runners of for missing the time.
It would not be far fetched that runners would be like "F U, I'm gonna keep a running"..

Literally as I am stretching for the run my garmin beeps low battery. Did a 5k this morning and it looks like the heat is coming back boys.

Hey guys, how long should I keep running 5ks about before doing 10k again. I think this is what got me injured by increasing mileage too quickly

You should gradually ramp up your mileage. The longest distance you do in a week should be the longest daily distance + 10%.

So I'd do 5k, a couple 6k, 7k, 8k and then 10k.

Exactly what @Crusader said. But also run slower for the longer distances than your 5km pace until you properly conditioned for the longer time and strain on the body.

Yes. Longer distances should definitely be at a slower pace too.

I learned the hard way. Had the flu and then came back after 2 weeks of no running and did a 15k which screwed up my foot. Gave it a few days rest and then did a 21k which royally screwed it up again. Lessen learned.

It has been a while since I have posted. So a quick update, somehow a friend convinced me to do the Cape town Marathon with him so I might die in October.

Other than that I have been running mostly with the Puma ForeverRun NITRO 2, Asics GT 2000-12 and the Puma Velocity NITRO 3, my rankings are as follows
ForeverRun - 9/10
Asics - 7/10
Velocity 5/10

The ForeverRun is really comfortable and I enjoy running in them, they are breathable nice to wear and really comfortable for any pace. The Asics are also quite comfortable and they run well in even after 600km plus on them, when running with them I sometimes get niggles with my Achilles tendon and I am unsure as to why.

The Velocity is a weird shoe, They feel nice when running fast in, but they are really hard to run in, my Knees and shin take a massive beating when running with them to the point that after a 7km run with them I couldn't run the next day cause my shins had massive pain. With short burst things like playing Padel etc they are really nice in. I think they just need to be run in a bit more to feel nicer. @Crusader what is your experience with the Velocities?

Also been trying to get my mileage up again after being sick for a while 1756278955138.png

Not going really good my heart rate sucks and I am unsure why

A month ago it was fine can do way faster pace with lower heart rate and the runs feel the same. The run in July however was with a friend and I didn't really look at my watch. Does running with friends help with running more 'chilled'?

Want to see if I can clock 150km in September by doing lekker slow long runs more often to get my legs used to the longer distances, still have no idea why I signed up for a marathon

I still really enjoy the Velocity. They do have a much harsher ground feel and are more suited to faster sessions. I haven't experienced any issues with them hurting my feet or causing niggles. My level of pronation and running mechanics might just be a bit more suited to the shoe. My pair of Velocity 3s are at 172km and as far as pronation goes they definitely show a distinct inward lean towards each other when placed on a flat surface. They aren't stability shoes like the ForeverRun 2.

The ForeverRun 2 is definitely more comfortable and offers the stability elements the Velocity lacks. They are just much louder when striking the ground. Both the Velocity and ForeverRun have their place in my rotation. Velocity for speedier session and FRR2 for slower base runs when I'm not opting for the MagMax, which is also a new favourite of mine.
