Anyone else doing the Pretoria Vitality series races in Pretoria?

Did the Irene Farm one and it was super enjoyable. Almost cracked an hour for 10km.

nice good time there!

Thank you.

Yeah I'm not a runner but I've been doing parkruns and trying to crack a 25 min 5km and now have been gradually getting closer to 1 hour for 10km.

Just don't have time in the week to run so that's my downfall.

I need to get back into it but i find what really helps is waking up 30 mins earlier or skipping coffee in bed and instead hitting the road for a quick 2-5km. I actually feel so much better when i do it, but it is very easy to be lazy, the plus side is that you dont feel guilty in the afternoon for being a potato

With a 25 min 5km you should cruise in under an hour for a 10km.

Try running at a 5:50min per km pace rather then a 5 min per km and you wont fatigue as much and feel much better through the run. On up hills try keep it 6:30 and then speed up to a 5:30 when you come down on the hard km's.

By doing that you will come in at 58ish mins and still feel like you have a bit in the tank. With the extra energy you can give the last 1-2km's a good go and maybe even do two 5 min splits giving you a 56min.

Thanks, good advice there.

I don't really track per km because I don't have a sports watch yet. So it's basically just pushing where I feel I can and then taper off where I have to.

My PB on a 5km is just a hair under 28:00 so getting to 25:00 is still a bit far off for me. I feel as if I'm much closer to breaking the 1 hour barrier on a 10 km then getting to 25:00 in 5km.

Me. Also enjoyed the farm race, very nice venue. I did the 21k at 2:07. This Saturday, I'm only doing the 5k because of the Soweto on Sunday. It will be my first marathon.

5km@29:48 - did the rowlin glow run
Cool! I also did it. Pretty lekker race with great marshals.

We caught LOTS of walkers doing the 5 with about 4ish KM to go. It was actually a mission to get through the crowds at times. Am I being selfish if I get annoyed by this The marshals tried to get them to stay right but the walkers just ignored them.

Anyway. Wanted to get closer to 50min, but the legs just felt heavy.

Yeah people can be very annoying, I had kids running into me and walkers blocking everywhere, we see it at park run also all the time. The worst for me is the beginning in that it's like everyone wants to be in front but they have no intention of jogging let alone running, even when I slack off or need to tie a lace or something I move way off to the side and do my thing then find an open slot to join back in.
