My big toe is going through my compression socks(not making a hole) and busting the roof of the shoe, anyone else have experience with this? I don't want to kill these shoes when they're only 300km old or so.

This happens to some people, I don't believe there is anything you can do about it. My partner has this issue, all her running shoes get the sticky out toes, regardless of what brand.

I mean, I'm sure if you go to any material shop you'll get those thicker iron on support that you could either glue to the inside of your shoe or on your socks.

I have this all the time. My latest New Balance 860 V10 seems more resistant to it, but on older shoes, I've made material and epoxy patches.

Hey all,

Im getting into road running - 10km-13km (I hope) 5 times a week. However I bought inner soles from Dischem and popped them in my Nike Air Max Shoes, and boy oh boy can they rub blisters on my toes :-( So I am thinking I better invest in decent inner soles and proper running socks? Is this a fair statement? Obviously I dont want to spend a stack either...

So.. if these are fair comments, what would you recommend?

Air Max and running? Nope don’t do that to yourself. Since you’re getting into running and I’m not sure on what you’d be willing to spend, you can get Maxed shoes for a few hundreds. A “nice” running shoe for the elite brands go for about R1800 and an entry level one for a few hundreds less.

Get proper running shoes. Nike Pegasus is pretty good.

Get some Falke Stride running socks.

Ok, getting into may be not totally true - I was running 150-200km in March and April then life happened and I stopped. Now started again.

May I ask why no Nike Air Max Pro?

When I started running 5 years ago, I bought a pair of Nike Air Max because they looked cool. I did a Parkrun and fell my ass off after slipping on grass. I bought my first pair of ASICS that day and have never looked back. Kayanos for everyday running (I pronate a bit) and Meta Racer for speed.

Don’t skimp on your shoes, ever. And replace every 6 months to 1 year, depending on kms.

Pegasus are great though, if you fancy Nike.

Personally a New Balance fan, but have these so wanted to use - They are rated well on the net for running :-(

Unfortunately they just aren't properly up to the task. Especially at the mileage you are going for, which is pretty high (well done!). Reviews are likely from low mileage runners i.e. 5km or less.

I would suggest going to a specialist running shop and letting them help you find a suitable and appropriate shoe for you. In CT I go to the Sweat Shop or Athletes Foot. When you try a shoe that truly suits you, you will understand.

Air Max is for the mall, not enough stability. (IMHO of course)

Asics is a bit like Toyota. People don't want it because it's too mainstream. But eventually they realize why it's so popular. If you go look at the stats for Comrades, more people wear Asics that all the rest combined.
With Nike and New balance also quite popular, and the rest made up by Puma, Saucony and the rest.

The comrades stats is a good place to look. It takes a ton of training, and all sorts of people do it. Not just elite sponsored athletes. It's hard to get through all that training uninjured if you have dodgy shoes.

Hi

How do you find Maxed? Reasonable quality and longevity?
