The official running thread™

Tried running at home up and down driveway for the running world cup. I am not as good as you okes, however d o normally run 5km in 32 mins (does include some walking)

Noticed that doing the driveway loops, my Garmin underreports my distance. Tells me I am doing 1km in 10 mins which is wierd. I have a feeling the GPS is not working out that I am moving ?

Anyone noticed this?
Same. Started using a mi band and it's much more accurate.

I had that same GPS issue the first time on my Garmin. I think because you aren't really moving anywhere other than in a smallish circle, the GPS picks up that you're going very slowly and calculates accordingly. On the second run, I switched mine to Run Indoors and that was far more accurate. As for this morning's run... Oh my word!o_O

Same. I run through my garage, and I'm sure it messes up the GPS. I tried treadmill mode, which gives me 2.5km in 34 min, so I'm sure that's wrong too; it's most likely about 4km.

Thanks chaps. Definitely going to use indoor running mode. Too lazy to run nowadays haha

Serious respect there. Longest I've managed is 2 hours doing 100m loops. Mentally, it's the toughest running I've ever done. I'd far rather do a 100k trail than 22k running loops

GPS has its days, sometimes quite accurate, others way off

Manually measure your track and keep count of your loops for better tracking. GPS goes wonky on small loops.

Going to try Strava and see if that measures better than MapMyRun

Great run! Congrats!

Not sure if you fellow runners have seen this one, but Versus Socks has teamed up with Asics, JBL, and Garmin in hosting a virtual run date on Saturday. Lots of prizes to be won here, and super easy to enter :).

Registered. Thanks!

Have a Garden Trail run on Sunday as well through KZNTR.

Does anyone know anything about the below:

In addition to the risk assessments, Ramaphosa also announced that, as of 1 May:

- The travel ban put in place on 15 March remains in place. Travel between provinces will still be restricted other than for the transportation of essential goods, or funerals.

- The ban on cigarette sales will be lifted.

- Some outdoor exercise will be allowed.

- Staff who can work from home will continue to do so and those who return to work must do so under strict hygiene rules, such as wearing face masks.

I can't find any more info on what are these "some outdoor exercise". Hope we will be allowed to run in the neighbourhood

The last bit says we can jog in level 4. Good thing, because I haven't done any jogging since the lockdown started, and I'm going to struggle to regain my fitness

"People can exercise under strict public health conditions. (These conditions have still not been announced.)"

Must say ... do miss my weekly ParkRun
