The official running thread™

Starting to wonder if it's worth doing training mileage if the race is never going to happen(cancelled due to covid for example). Might end up being better reducing the mileage to a consistent solid amount but if the race happens them I'm not as prepared as I'd like to be. Sigh

Why not make it a training block anyway since you can always do a virtual to assess where you're at in terms of pace and fitness. Dischem virtual will go ahead for everyone with no refunds even if actual race is cancelled.

Most people that consistently do 40-50km/week easy mileage are always half marathon ready for sub 2h:20m. It's the full 42km that we need to train for and non have been confirmed anytime soon anyway.

This is one tuff race if you want to go 17h. Missed it in the end but I didn't care as I such a lekker run.

I did loads of hill training, but damn 5km of Vert hurts
Well done, the new section from Hout Bay to Constantia Nek adds about 40-50 minutes of extra time.

The 100 miler for next year looks like proper fun

Depending on the distance, you can train and then do the virtual race which is what I have done a few times. Not the same with the crowds but doing those crazy long runs on your ace is a mind f"#$ and still an accomplishment.

Jim Walmsley did it in 9h47min
Super human
5:45min/,km over one of the hardest trails...
Jim was dropping the local racing snakes who were filming. Even after 90k he was too fast for them.

Although he caught himself out with his speed at the top of Platteklip taking a wrong turn and adding an extra k or so. Quite a few uh oh emails were sent while Jim was in town
