The official running thread™

Did the Knysna Half Marathon over the weekend. Was such a jol, seriously can't recommend it enough anyone coming from anywhere in the country. Well worth the journey there.

First 14km are all through the forest and it is stunningly beautiful.

I got a very bad flu in the two weeks before the race so was very much off my goal time of 01:55 but oh well next time. Managed to run with a friend and helped tow her in for this 02:14 time which was her new PB and 4 mins faster than her old time. Was stoked to be able to help her with that.

Phew... everyone's doing loooooong runs lately. I still do 2-3 runs every week and usually between 5k to 10k... I think my knees will die a horrible death if I even attempt anything longer than 10k.

Bucket list item

Do you have issues with your knees?
Yep, nothing too serious, but I had a cartilage injury in my right knee years ago that went untreated (thanks Mom and Dad), then a muscle issue and overuse in my left knee earlier this year - that at least recovered with time and physio. After a hard or long run, I really feel it, but I'm usually fine during - though since I run a lot, it means my knees will be sore regularly.

Ah sorry man, not good - I guess it could be worse. Kudos for pushing through it though

I also ran the knysna half this weekend.

Personally I'll skip it in future. All the admin surrounding the VERY early wakeup call to catch the taxis to the start etc is just too much hassle. It was nice to do an event where no masks are required etc. Sort of the first 'back to normal' thing since the start of the pandemic.

Fair points, can fully agree where you coming from. I was with a group of people so we kept up our own gees during the tedium of the logistics.

I loved the overall vibe of the whole town and the beer tent and everything that happened after the race. That was my favorite part.

What time did you wake up for your race? I woke up at 2am, drove about 100km then took the paid bus service to the start of the race(bergville to ladysmith kzn).

Jeez, that sort of sucks the fun out of it. I had to wake up at 3h45 to get there in time.

I have had a terrible year for running, first my accident, covid and then I bent down to pick up the washing and tore my quad (very embarrassing).

I have slowly clawed my way back and did a 15km this weekend which is my longest run this year....Not very fast like 1hour 35mins.

Hopefully I don't break until kaapsehoop and I can get one marathon done this year.

The Nike Run Club guided runs have been so valuable to me lately. It was practically no effort to run for 45 minutes and I even had time to reflect on many things in my life to be thankful for.
This thread is full of veteran runners, but if you're a newbie looking for encouragement or guidance on technique and form, check out the Nike Run Club app.
