The Official Summer Transfer Mayhem 2009 Thread

Just in your opinion... Milito or Zarate?

Different players. Zarate more skillfull but more inconsistent. Milito is the more likely to put away the chance when presented while zarate is more likely to create something out of nothing.

With crespo and cruz going we need a poacher/finisher.

Italian legend for Moroka Swallows?

Posted: 2009-05-18 09:45

Christian Vieri, once the most expensive player in the world, has been linked with Moroka Swallows.
Should the Birds sign the former Italian World Cup striker, it would represent one of the biggest transfer coups in South African football history.

A number of reports from Italy at the weekend are claiming that Swallows are tracking the former Azzurri striker.

According to respected Italian sports publication Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bologna-born, Australian-raised 35-year-old left Atalanta last month following a mutual agreement and has not given any indication of his plans since.

Swallows CEO Leon Prins admits that the club have been offered Vieri’s services by an agent, but tells KickOff.com: “Nothing further has been done – we still want to see videos of him in action – he is a legendary striker, but he is 35.”

Swallows usually keep a tight rein on salaries and it is difficult to see them splashing the cash, although Prins is adamant; “it is Vieri’s camp who approached us, not the other way round”.

It should also be remembered that Swallows are owned by one of central Europe’s richest men, the German Dieter Bock.

Vieri is one of the most-travelled footballers in the modern game, having played for 12 different clubs including spells at Lazio, Inter, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Monaco.

Vieri’s 1999 move from Lazio to Inter Milan set a then world transfer record of $49-million. He is still the fourth-most expensive player of all time behind Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Hernan Crespo.

Vieri’s career dipped ahead of Germany 2006 because of poor form and a string of injuries, but coach Marcello Lippi always indicated a place was available if he returned to match fitness.

His longest spell at any one club was his six years at Inter, where he scored 122 goals in all competitions and notched up 24 goals in 23 League matches in 2002/03.

You're still not making any sense H_H

@poison... Dude, I wouldn't mind Tevez - far better than an Anelka/Drogba second class hybrid (Adebayor - strong, but can't hold as well as Drogba, needs 20 chances to score, like Anelka... and Anelka has more talent...)

I dunno smokey, the Drogs/Anelka combo seems to be working quite well lately especially with Malouda being part of it?

Drogs staying slightly right and Nik in the middle seems to be hot, problem is, what to do with Kalou and Joe Cole?

Kalou can sod off for all I care, he's worthless unless he accepts being a supersub. The fact that Malouda has played well only in the last 2 or so months is both brilliant and fishy. I don't know if I would trust him to continue like that for the whole of next season...

Cole is the man, don't even go there:p

Anelka/Drogs is not ideal, simply because they are too old. One or the other has to go... I'd be too afraid to lose Drogba, but it could allow for some other youngsters to be put in. United needed a bit of time for their team to gel and I reckon if we can hold out for another two seasons... we will be able to forge a team that is brilliant.

Fact is that we have too many old players - Ballack, Carvalho, etc...

I dunno mate, hopefully the next manager will be a good'un and manage to balance out the here and now with future needs. Really wouldn't like to end up in Milan's situation...

Vieri has never been the same since he left inter. Knowing Bobo the models in SA better watch out, he is notorious for all the beautiful girls he has had in his time.

In other news juve have sacked ranier and appointed ferrara as caretaker till the end of the season . They also signed Fabio Cannavaro. Sure the juve fans are going to love that, they considered him a traitor for leaving when calciopoli hit.

Also Inter are close to agreeing a deal for thiago motta and diego milito from genoa. €15 million plus full ownership of acquafresca and viviano and the loan of bonucci.

YES! Finally RANSACKNeri has been removed! :w00t:

He was destroying Juventus in the past 2 months!

what the flaming f00k will they do with Diego and Giovinco in the same team???? Tards... Giovinco for Chelsea. The new Zola! Yeah people:D

lol smokey Giovinco and Diego will be left and right attacking midfield ;) they had to get rid of poulsen... nedved is retiring - wonder who they gonna use to replace him :g:

Bullsh1t. You can only have one playmaker in the team calling the shots. Two is asking for trouble, unless they are identical twins and telepaths to boot.
