The Official Xiaomi Thread

Thanks for the answers.

Sigh, to stick with Note 3 and wait for Note 5 or... pull the trigger on a flash sale Note 4 SD and attempt to sell the Note 3.....

If you can sell your Note 3 for the same price to replace go for it else just wait for Note 5 scheduled for release in Feb 2018 (Not the Note 5A cause that will be a downgrade)

There is not much difference between Note 3 & 4X. I played with both and they basically the same. The only benefits you get on upgrade would be battery life and a small boost in Bluetooth range. Thats it.

Ok you might get Miui 9 sooner as well but its not like Xiaomi ignore older models like Samsung does. Hell the Redmi Note 2 is getting MIUI 9 so that says something.

RE: gearbest, they shipped lightbulbs to me with priority shipping as well, value $49. However, it came by Courier IT not Aramex, and I was charged almost R600 in customs and "fees".

If you order Priority Line, try to make sure they don't use Courier IT, although that'll be difficult as their support is terrible.

Ja, Sagsmug blithely will ignore their older models, why bother if their customers will upgrade to newer stuff anyway....

The way Xiaomi is going, they're going to win a lot of people over (competitions etc).

Sagsmug will wake up too late.

With Android 5.0 base. Same as what it came out with.

I ****ing hate Customs

With 95% of the features that the other phones have so you hardly notice it.

Edit: If you compare to other OEM's that barely support top range phones for more than a year nevermind the mid tier or bottom range.

Sure thing.

R2111.20 per device (Redmi Note 4 32GB ROM 3GB RAM SD625) = R4222.40
R15.00 approx for Priority Line shipping (7 - 15 working days), free shipping takes up to two months but customs would be a bit cheaper
R313.00 customs and clearance

R4550.40 or R2275.20 per device. It took eight days to get from being shipped by Gearbest to me having it in my grubby little paws :)

After the package gets to SA, Aramex will phone you for your e-mail address (for me, this was day six). They then send you a mail with the total amount due (day seven). After you pay this they release it and it leaves for the local depot closest to you. The next day (day 8) they delivered to me.

10/10 would use again :D

thanks for this, next time i'll give them a shot.

You're not the only one. In my os/2 days I had to deal a lot with these numpties.

Suffice to say I've found somebody who'll resell os/2 software sans customs hassle.

And some stuff you could buy online.

Master of the Empire and Galactic Civilizations was two that I managed to get past customs. Nowadays they're more clued up (and numptier...)

I notice it and I hate the fact that Miui hides stock google android features like Smart Lock.

Riptide GP2 is free in the Google Play Store. Nice game to check out that new phone GPU.

Wonder why they will do such things.
It boggles the mind.

Is anyone here using the FNB Banking app on a rooted device with a FP sensor that can confirm that fingerprint verification doesn't work?

I'd like to root my device to enable custom icons on the Google Now Launcher but I don't want to lose fingerprint verification on my banking app. I know you can bypass it with Magisk but that seems way too much effort for a few lousy icons

Confirmed.
I rooted my note 3 and found you can't use the fingerprint on the FNB App.

Someone earlier pointed me in the direction of dual apps. Does anyone know how to stop it from asking me this every time I tap the original WhatsApp icon?

I haven't found a way myself on any launcher other than the MIUI launcher. So I just stick with the MIUI launcher.

It's a shame really. I get it's for security issues but it's one of the things holding me back from installing a custom ROM on my Note 4.
You can still install a custom ROM and keep fingerprint authentication as long as you don't root your device. Just unlocking the boot loader doesn't break it.
