The Official Xiaomi Thread

It depends on the ROM developer, really. I had a Nexus 5X and now have a ZUK Z2 and the majority of ROMS aren't rooted by default - it's most often left up to the user. Even if they are rooted, it's a simple process to reverse that.

Only realized this Today. Don't know if its a JBL feature or Xiaomi. My Bluetooth headphones have a battery indicator on my phones notification bar.

This morning I had a red oval, and was wondering what that was. The headphones dies soon after with a woman telling me "Low Power". Charged it to full and now has a white filled oval in its place. Will keep an eye out for it esp seeing that its suppose to oblt be a feature in New Android O and my Mi 5 is only on MIUI 8 (Android N).

Cool and its actually working, and this is suppose to only come in with Android O.

Shot taken just now.

The reporting of battery level cam in with the bluetooth 4 standard I think. I have had it for years on IOS and was available since I got my Redmi note 2 ~18 months ago, so not new.

I know not new, what I am saying is its something a) I only noticed this morning as it was red and B) that you only get from OEM's as Android is only getting it in next update.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is official - 16MP selfies on the cheap

Say hello to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A. It comes with emphasis on selfies, good build quality, good screen and battery life, but most of all affordability.

The Redmi Note 5A has a 5.5" 1280x720px LCD, a 16MP front-facing camera and 13MP camera on the back. The phone features a fingerprint scanner on the back and a decent 3,080 mAh battery under the hood.

Powering the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chipset with octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU. It's built on the dated 28nm process though, so it's not quite the best in terms of power efficiency.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A comes in three colors - Champagne Gold, Rose Gold and Platinum Silver Gray and three RAM configurations. The base model has 2GB of RAM and costs CNY 699 (R1 380,41), there's a 3GB+32GB version priced at CNY 899 (R1 775,38 ) and a 4GB+64GB high-end model that is priced CNY 1,199 (R2 367,8 ). All three go on sale in China today.

I feel the biggest let down is the 720p screen...

Agreed. I'd rather spend the extra R500 for a crisp display and faster chipset

This just in Xiaomi Note 6 will have 800x640 screen and run on 32nm CPU.

I mean wtf? Are they trying to go backwards or does it come naturally?

Look having a weaker CPU on Note 4 Vs 3. I can understand why they did it. But going slower again and this time round they use a dated CPU as well.

Well the A series seems to be their budget range. The redmi 4A is a very capable device, so this shouldn't be any different. But once you go FHD or 2K. 720p is child's play and never looks the same.

1280x720 is still decent on a 5" device but pushing it on a 5.5" and downright meh on a 6" screen.

I get that, but still..... Xiaomi's naming goes for a ball of * sometimes.

From what I figure naming looks like this:

. A=Bottom Spec
. X=Top Spec

. Mi = Top range Phones
. Redmi = Mid range Phones
That gets broken up to Sizes
. Redmi Note = 5.5"
. Redmi = 5"

But now you get a Xiaomi Mi 5X
Thats Redmi Note 4 specs and fall in the Note size range (Mi 5 outclass it in every way but size)

So yeah....

A week later and afrihost messed up, the system didn't pick up that I have already paid and nobody answered my support ticket. So I've asked for it to be cancelled and I'll buy it from gearbest. Hopefully they'll cancel it since they've already wasted my time.

That sucks man. I say fight for your money and perhaps spend it elsewhere. It may be a blessing in disguise...

Woohoo DHL dropped off my new Matt Black Xiaomi Mi Max 2 yesterday. Loving this phone - simply awesome battery life, and love the big high def display against a black background.

Oh - DHL took only two (2) days from the time it was picked up in Hong Kong to the time it was delivered at my gate in a small town in KZN - awesome speed !
