The Official Xiaomi Thread

I get that, but still..... Xiaomi's naming goes for a ball of * sometimes.

From what I figure naming looks like this:

. A=Bottom Spec
. X=Top Spec

. Mi = Top range Phones
. Redmi = Mid range Phones
That gets broken up to Sizes
. Redmi Note = 5.5"
. Redmi = 5"

But now you get a Xiaomi Mi 5X
Thats Redmi Note 4 specs and fall in the Note size range (Mi 5 outclass it in every way but size)

So yeah....

Redmi - Is the low range phones, the A makes it even lower
Redmi Note - Is the midrange phones
Mi Max - is a midrange phone with hopes of grandeur
Mi - Is the top of the range phones.

The Mi 5x is a stripped down version of the 5, the s or the plus are generally the top of the range of said model. The X isn't it's probably more akin to the A of the Redmi series from what I can decode.

A week later and afrihost messed up, the system didn't pick up that I have already paid and nobody answered my support ticket. So I've asked for it to be cancelled and I'll buy it from gearbest. Hopefully they'll cancel it since they've already wasted my time.
What them closely, I had a similar experience, weeks after they debited my bank account, no action. I cancelled and they didn't put the money back into my account. Eventually found they credited my Afrihost account...

Woohoo DHL dropped off my new Matt Black Xiaomi Mi Max 2 yesterday. Loving this phone - simply awesome battery life, and love the big high def display against a black background.

Oh - DHL took only two (2) days from the time it was picked up in Hong Kong to the time it was delivered at my gate in a small town in KZN - awesome speed !

Congrats! How are you finding the weight? Is the screen very crisp on that size (6.44")? The SD625 is a nice chipset and should perform really well on a 1080p screen.

Gearbest and what did it land you?
I'm seriously looking at a MiMix. Will wait a bit for prices to level out.

bought a Mi5s on BangGood - specifically chose HongKong warehouse and shipped to my Aramex HK address. This morning i see its shipped out of singapore :D :D

Ah well, i'm hoping it'll arrive within a week or two.

I made a thread in the afrihost forum, did you eventually get the credit back into your bank account? i can't have that much in afrihost credit. i need it back to my bank so i can order from gearbest.

Keen to hear whether it's worth upgrading to, once it becomes available locally... Though your shopping experience seems to have been a good one...

Where did you buy it from?

And yet my Redmi 4A performs quite well....

It always is :(

Perhaps wait for a flash sale at Gearbest or similar sites? What is your budget?

The weight is not bad at all and well balanced. It is a lot thiner than I was expecting. Yes, the display is crisp - no pixels that I can see....just as crisp as my 5.5" Xiaomi Note 4.

I bought it through tinydeal.com. It took 15 days before they finally got stock of the Matt Black Mi Max 2, but after that it took DHL just 2 (two) days to get it to me. I don't want to reveal what the customs costs were - I don't know who from customs could be reading this...

I see they shaved nearly a mm off the thickness compared to the Note 4 which in itself wasn't very thick to start off with. 7.6mm according to GSMarena vs the 8.5mm of the Note 4. Impressive!

Well, put it this way - if I had the choice to buy the Matt Black Xiaomi Mi Max 2 again....would I buy it again, or would I buy something else ? Without a doubt I would buy the same phone again. Just awesome battery life, beautiful big display but not too big for my hands. And it is just beautiful in Matt Black - I wouldn't get the gold or silver with white front versions - I find them to be ugly. I have had it now for 36 hours and it is still on 45 % battery left.

If I did the deal again, I would rather buy from GearBest. Tinydeal tried to rip me off with extra DHL costs and it has left a sour taste in my mouth. I bought the Matt Black Xiaomi Mi Max 2 from tinydeal together with a whole heap of other items. I chose to have everything sent by DHL. The phone on it's own would have been $ 35.00, but with everything else the DHL shipping cost came to $ 85.00. I paid the full $ 85.00 for DHL shipping, and then when the phone was in stock, they sent the phone only by DHL and sent everything else with the stupid regular post that takes about 60 - 70 days (using the useless S.A Post Office when it gets in the country).

So I had a go at tinydeal - I said that if I paid $ 85.00 for everything to go by DHL, then I expect it to all go with DHL. And if they sent the balance of the shipment with their "free" post service, then I need a refund on a portion of the DHL costs. They acted dumb and pretended that they didn't understand my English, and didn't refund the balance of my DHL payments. They should have refunded me $ 85.00 - $ 35.00 = $ 50.00 for not sending the balance of the shipment with DHL.

I am not so worried about the $ 50.00 overcharge.....I am more pee'd off that the balance of the goods ordered will take 60 - 70 days and will be at the mercy of the thieving SA Post Office.
