The Official Xiaomi Thread

I agree with the bolded part.

Takealot should honour the warranty and, ideally, send you a brand new device without sending you on a roundabout trip with the supplier.

They supplied a faulty device that seems to be an out-of-box failure and they should do the leg work for the warranty.
Thanks PhireSide, I have taken your advise and just logged a return for exchange request. I'll post progress.

Note 8 & Note 8 Pro owners.

Do you have a notification led for whatsapp messages etc?

Do you have any issues with notification icons disappearing or has Xiaomi fixed that in an update?

There is an led. Very small and only white colour showing. I can hardly see the notification led.

I don't have issues. My notifications appear. I think they fixed it in a recent update.

What Georgios said. Only issue I have is that my WhatsApp, Gmail, and messages (sms) notifications sometimes appear in triplicate on the lock screen. Not sure if it's a setting I screwed up, or?

I've been looking at getting the K20 Pro from Gear Best but I am a bit concerned about the lack of OIS on the main shooter. Has anyone noticed any issues with the photo quality at all, either on the K20, Mi 9T or Mi 9? They all use the same camera setup it seems.
Mi 9T Pro owner and I've had no issues, even though I have pretty shaky hands.

Do Xiaomi phones have an Always On Display Feature?

I have gotten use to how notifications work on a Samsung. Having a tiny/barely noticeable led notification light will frustrate me.

And is Xiaomi bringing in limited amounts of devices?

Takealot seems to have run out of stock of the Note 8 & Note 8 Pro

My Mi 9T does and the Mi 9 as well. So I guess all the AMOLED screen equipped one's will offer always on display notifications etc.

Many thanks to the ninjas that firstly directed me to the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite and even assisted with do's and don'ts - Thank you for input and feedback as I bothered with questions and feedback with everything pertaining to ordering and shipping in the device as it was my first rodeo.

I received the phone yesterday. A few days after the indicated delivery date but then it was also the festive holiday and so it's understandable. Figured out that my major complain about the phone is actually something on every phone. I'll give a proper review after I have had some time to get used to it. But my initial thoughts are that its an awesome device. Basically packs in everything in a compact and not too heavy form factor. Loving the little things like gestures, dark mode, always on display - face unlock is stupid fast. onscreen fingerprint reader is cool, the xiaomi led light at the back is also cool. Gorgeous 1080p AMOLED screen. Which by the way I checked and it supports widevine level 1 so Netflix on HD is possible. I could go on and on but I reckon for a total price of R4215 it's the best bang for the buck one can get for a mid ranger.

I can only confirm in my case that the Mi 9 Lite has that feature.

9t /k20 pro does. It would be those with amoled display. Also they call it ambient display

Glad you are happy and got the phone in good time.

It's not in the display section. Search in settings for always or ambient

Feeling really tempted to give a Xiaomi phone a try, but I'm worried about future support for repairs/battery replacements in SA. Anyone have any comments or experience with this?

Also, looking on Gearbest I often see under shipping it says "No more shipping methods for South Africa". I assume that means that particular seller/model doesn't ship that phone to SA?

I'd also like to get us one of these, but I am concerned with the vacuum navigating the 'lip' between rooms (we have laminate flooring throughout).

We have a smaller cheapie vacuum but it can only do one room at a time due to the ground clearance being too low for it to climb over the lips (0.3mm between most rooms and 10mm high at our patio area)
Several mm is fine, 10 mm is too high. You need the upgrade called the Roborock, it can handle thicker carpets etc.

Mi 9 arrived yesterday, quite impressed with the device. Current issue is not being able to transfer all my 2FA settings, major schelp! Have Nova launcher installed too as the stock OS is worse than my p10s.

What app do you use for 2fa?

Assume Google authenticator. You can't transfer it, you have to reload it and it's a pain.
