The Official Xiaomi Thread

Friend of mine got a Mi Max. Changed some setting on Nova launcher (thinking it'll help with battery life) and his phone went crazy.
ADB was turned off. So no way he can get in to remove Nova launcher to fix it.
I suggested remote wipe. It was either that or a new phone.
Remote wipe worked, phone got recovered.

I have to say, I like MIUI launcher. I dont see why anyone would want to use anything else on their Xiaomi phone. It is sleek and beautiful, unless there is a feature they want that is not available on MIUI which I am not aware of.

I have been using Nova for years, over a big variety of phone brands. The biggest advantage for me is the full backup that is so easy to transfer to a new phone, or to a different rom. The customisation features on the app are just about endless, but once I have my launcher setup as I want it, there is no reason to frequently change the recipe.

I've had a Mi Max 3 for more than 2 years and have run on Android 8, 9 and 10 and on a bunch of custom ROMs and have never had a mishap with Nova. I've also had it on various Samsung phones and a bunch of tablets, including Asus, Samsung and teclast. It's so easy to keep the same look and feel across devices.

I would love to know what setting triggered @The_Librarian s buddy's phone.

I also used to use Nova exclusively but MIUI 12 killled gestures in all third party launchers with only the standard MIUI launcher working so I’ve got used to using it now. I’d rather have gestures than Nova.

The standard Android gestures? I use Fluid Navigation Gestures that is miles better than the stock gestures.

When is the Xiaomi Note 10 series getting to SA?

I see the release date was March this year.

Has anyone purchased from Giztop.com before? I see they are cheaper that Banggood and they ship to SA. I am considering getting the MI 11.

Here you go.

This is his story.

My phone is buggered.
I have an Android and use a program called Nova Launcher as the home screen replacement and it works really well with all sorts of nifty settings to customize the interface.
Yesterday, I changed a setting that has made the phone unusable. I turned on something that is supposed to save battery by turning off half of the pixels. Sounds great. As soon as I enabled it, the phone went nuts and I have no way to access the screen. It just starts random applications and hitting random stuff.
Now, I can’t start even start the phone because I can’t enter a password. I’m surprised I was able to turn it off. It took a while.
Originally, I had loaded TWRP on it at the base level so I could root it and install an English ROM to save me from the Chinese interface. It was a bit tricky, but eventually I got it to work. The phone has been great ever since. Rebooting with the down volume + power button combo used to bring me to that interface. Now, it doesn’t. I don’t know why. It did last week.
So, time to start fresh with the Android Dev Kit and load in a new ROM. Oh, I see that there is one out for Android 11. Great.
Except that I didn’t turn on the developer option for USB debugging on the phone and now I have no way to enable it.
TLDR: Phone no workee. Can’t get into it via PC. Argh.

I’ve been thinking that maybe if I could get a secondary touch screen and run that through the USB-C port, I might be able to reset that option that way. I just happen to have an extra touch screen that I got for another project. Now I just have to see if I can find a USB-C to HDMI cable or something.

I still have my work phone, so I am still kind of reachable to those who need me. I suppose I should change my voice mail and see if there’s a way to access my text messages.

I’m getting an absolutely huge backpay settlement next week, so I could just buy a new phone … but I really love my Mi Max 3. There is nothing wrong with it and if I can update it to 11, it should last for a couple more years. I love my big-ass phone.

Thanks for the feedback, but unfortunately I don't understand that at all. Switching off half the pixels don't save battery on an LCD screen? I have never seen such a setting on Nova

Also, if he crashed the phone so that it would not boot, why not load a a stock rom with MIFlash? That is always the starting point if so else has failed. As long as the bootloader is unlocked, that will always load the stock rom. If he had loaded TWRP, the bootloader must have been unlocked

Sorry for being a Karen today but MIA is a terrible "offical importer".

They bring in limited amounts of Xiaomi phones, prices are inconsistent, flash sales don't happen locally and the Redmi Note 10 is taking waaaayyyy tooo long to launch.
