The OpenWeb VPN Progress Report Thread

and you're sure you did'nt download anything local ?

Remember that the VPN adds a preferred Default gateway, but there IS another gateway from your local ADSL router....

I have the same problem.

Keoma's phone goes straight to voicemail =(

It cut off at 1pm exactly and has gone in to a none responsive state (just sits at connecting).

Hey Friends

Seems like there was a Verizon Business network issue! I apologise for the inconvenience. All should now be sorted.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Well, I did post earlier that I could connect a bit later and have been connected ever since.

My VPN always drops at 12:00 midnight and 9:00 am everyday.I contacted Telkom, they reset the port, but still drops at those times.Any suggestions MrBeep?

do you dial the connections from outside of your router? You should do that and set the connections to not disconnect when they "may no longer be needed". I think I discussed as much a bit earlier in this thread.

VPN down again. I lost a few megs as a result of a failed download.

And its back again.

Set all the "Do not disconnect" and "re-connect on disconnect" options in the VPN Settings.

Yeah I also get that 12am and 9am disconnect every day. It is quite annoying! And yes, I have set the Do not Disconnect and the Reconnect on Disconnect options to on. Seeing as we both go down at the exact same times, it leads me to believe that there is no problem on our side.

I don't go down. Do you dial the IS local from inside your modem?

Ok. Someone suggested that I should set the modem in pure bridged mode with dhcp server disabled. Then set up a pppoe connection on the computer with your IS username/password. Set the pppoe and the vpn connection to auto redial if line is dropped. In the vpn choose the dial this connection first and choose the IS. Also, internet explorer (Tools ->Internet Options->Connection) I first chose "never dial a connection", then for both the IS and VPN, in the same screen, I went
properties->advanced. There I de-selected "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed" and have had only infrequent disconnections since. In the rare event of the line dropping, it is automatically redialed, so torrents can continue. The modem, as I have it, usually re-assignes your computer a new ip after certain periods, but this can also be turned off.

Hope that helps

Well well well. My connection also just dropped at the gong of 00h00 (why did I not notice it before?). Presumably it will do the same at 09h00 as well then. The slow speed afterwards is the IS local account, as this site is painfully slow with only that connected. Restarting my computer seems to have fixed it, but that might just be coincidence. So I am not too sure that the problem is with Telkom.

The VPN is desperately slow, while the local is fine. Just me? :|
