The OpenWeb VPN Progress Report Thread

Hey kalster. It's not just you. my friends vpn is also giving him hell..

In wow he currently sits with pings ranging from 2000ms to 22000ms. Browsing seems fine though. but p2p ports are definetely restricted.

He tried to contact openweb yesterday but the phone line was "busy" the entire day!!

they will probally fix the problem tomorrow. or so we hope =/

So much for unshaped.

I have to try play on the local provided account now (first gig is free). I am getting pings of 900 to 1100ms.

I definitely do not have a lot of joy out of this account. When it works, it is awesome. When it doesn't work, Openweb is never at fault and therefore has no "first person" power to kick IS's ass or Verizon's ass. Basically they have to wait for them to fix it. So much for Verizon getting their act together and moving us to new servers etc.

Also another gripe that I have with this package is that the gigs don't match up. All users should be informed that it is in fact a 9 gig IS account with a "bonus" international gig that can only be used in the first week of the month. Lots of hidden catches here that they do not inform you about EVEN though you ask when phoning.

Looks like IS is having problems - telkom notified that SAFE Cable is having problems and had to redirect a lot of traffic - hence the congestion.

This is temporary, let Telkom fix the issue and everything should be back to normal.

can i do the pppoe + pptp with a single router or do i need 2 devices; current my dsl modem dails pppoe and my router the pptp.... well havn't gotten so far as the pptp part yet.

as to [telkom] ---- [dsl modem] --- [router] setup is already boggling my mind as to wtf must be on dhcp and what ips so that it works correctly... help help help help :D

You would be surprised.

When the account is working and IS / Verizon pull finger, it is godly.

Unfortunately expect this kind of crap 3 out 7 days a week.

well if any one knows how to setup a pptp with a router and dsl modem combo i would appreciate it - thnx

Cancelled my subscription

The time has come, I am totally F***t off at this openweb crap. I have been a subscriber since the VPN inception and not a week has gone by without complaints. At the moment it is the worst it has ever been, it literally takes 3mins to open a webpage. They just take their phones off the hook, cause you can't phone them at all, the line is engaged from 8 in the morning till their office hours end, and then their voicemail is on saying you should phone back in office hours again. I then proceeded to e-mail Koema...who e-mailed me back saying my account seems to be fine and he provided me with international bandwidth I may use without VPN for the moment. That bandwidth lasted me all of 10 minutes of browsing! I'm sick of this country's sub-standard service and products, and as soon as I have finished my commitments in this country I am leaving. Not one facet of this country works as it should.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

IS semi unshaped is having the ****s

Hi,

Response from IS:

AFFECTED SERVICES: Consumer ADSL
AFFECTED POPS: National
GRADE OF SERVICE IMPACT: Major
SERVICE IMPACT: Increased latency
CAUSE OF EVENT: Telco circuit errors
TIME: 5-11-08 09h57
OUR REF: 1-422606889
CURRENT STATUS: Implementing solution
ATTENDING: Both IS and Telco engineers

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Emc circuit is down.

-when that is fixed maybe then i will know the power of this vpn service, so far i had to piggy back on other caps which i had on standby...

Like I said, when the VPN works, it is godlike. I have never seen such low latency for EU WoW (and I am on 384k).

Unfortunately, to keep the price low, Openweb resells IS bandwidth instead of SAIX. As we all know, IS is not capable of quality service. Every week they have a problem on their system.

I suppose if you were really desperate, you could ask Keoma to provide you with a 10gig SAIX account (more expensive) and see how it goes from there.
