Will something go wrong with this build?

Am I getting a good deal if I follow this setup with my budget?

Not any more or any less compared to any other build, or a new tv, car etc. That's what warranties are for but all the components are good.

Yes, excellent bang for the buck.

That was posted a month ago so prices probably went up a bit I suspect, if you wan't I can redo the build with new prices & substitute items if anything went out of stock or prices drastically changed.

Thank you so much ponder for your attention.

I understand, but the parts are compatible between each other, aren't they? (won't have any problem connecting them together? .. no explosions?)

Would it be asking too much if I asked you to redo the build? For a budget of R20k if I'm also getting a monitor with the deal, what's the best I can have?

Once again, thank you!

No it's all 100% compatible, no sparks or explosions.

So you want a monitor included in the R20k budget?
If 'yes' then you'll have to drop to a gtx 1060 and possibly skip on the ssd for now as well.

Do you have any existing components like hard drives etc that can be used in the new build to save a few rand?

I'll do a new build a bit later when I have time ;)

To be honest, I have a monitor but the thing is that it's an old one (more than 5 years) and with a vga connector, which is a bit of a turn-down.
I have a 128gb SSD, a 1TB hard-drive and the normal peripherals (mouse, keyboard, speakers).
No need for fancy cases, nor colorful pieces. I want to use the computer, not for show off.

That's awesome, thank you so much for your time with me.

Watch gumtree like a hawk...

I must clarify tho.

I initially got a 3rd gen for 2k. Managed to sell it for 3k and get a 4th gen for 3k.

But my own spend was the initial 2k.

It worked out for me Alhamdulillah. But a 3rd gen i5 would be just as good im sure.

Ive seen similar builds with 2nd gen i5s

Also note. The 3020/7020/9020 dells have a proprietary 8 pin power connector on the mobo. Which means that u cant replace the psu without a 24 pin to 8 pin adapter.

R3,021 - Intel 7th Gen Core Desktop Processor i7-7700
R741 - ASROCK H110M-HDV R3.0
R2884 - 2x Corsair ValueSelect, 8GB, DDR4-2133, CL15
R7199 - Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 Mini ZT-P10700G-10M 8GB
R999 - Super Flower SF-550F14MT Leadex 550W 80 Plus Silver Certified Fully Modular PSU
R307 - Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO, with 92mm PWM Fan
R714 - Corsair Carbide SPEC-04 CC-9011109-WW

R15865 - TOTAL (excluding monitor, see below for options)

Other case options,
https://www.wootware.co.za/corsair-spec-04-windowed-mid-tower-black-yellow-atx-desktop-chassis.html Same as above but yellow & R32 cheaper.
https://www.wootware.co.za/cooler-m...3-1-micro-atx-mini-tower-desktop-chassis.html Not sure about airflow on this one.

Motherboard I changed to something more basic but it won't affect performance. If you want you can change it back to the R1329 ASRock B250M Pro4 and you'll still end up within your budget.

Monitor options,
R2599 - LG 25UM58-P 25" UltraWide 21:9 Full HD (2560x1080) IPS LED-Backlit Monitor
R2742 - Samsung S24D300H 24" Full HD (1920x1080) LED Desktop Monitor
R3487 - ASUS VS248H 24" LED, Full HD, 1ms, 250cd/m2, D-Sub + DVI + HDMI

Compare the response times & refresh rates of the above monitors and pick one.

I omitted a SSD & HDD from the build as you already have those. If in the future you want to upgrade to a bigger SSD look on Carbonite as you can pick up a 1TB SSD for ~R3k, Ravi sells them quite often, example http://carbonite.co.za/showthread.php?179419-Sata-ssds-(256gb-1tb)

Hope this helps with your new build ;)

So...Ryzen Pinnacle Ridge due early next year (March, from what I've read). I might be tempted to splurge

So far this is what I've gathered -
1) Same architecture as Ryzen v1.0
2) Lithography change from 14nm to 12nm
3) IPC improvements unknown - could be a couple of percent.
4) Frequency improvements - should be able to run at higher clocks (unconfirmed).

I've got the itch :whistling:

Looking to build a basic Ubuntu desktop for the family. Main use will be Firefox and LibreOffice. Don't need a screen. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Budget 5 - 6K.

R1710 - Intel Skylake Core i5-6500, 3.20GHz, Quad Core, LGA1151 Tray Processor
R749 - ASROCK H110M-HDV R3.0
R1388 - Crucial CT8G4DFD8213, 8GB, DDR4-2133, CL15
R520 - Corsair VS CP-9020049-EU, 450w
R159 - Antec A30
R788 - Seagate BarraCuda ST1000DM010, 1TB
R468 - Cooler Master MasterBox 3 Lite MCW-L3S2-KN5N
R5782

Get a used 120GB SSD off carbonite or drop the HDD and get a 256GB SSD off carb. Dunno what your storage requirements are.

Hi Ponder I eventually went and got the Geforce GTX 1050 Gaming. I had to get a new power supply too.

One problem. My screen is a Samsung SynMaster S23B300. The input at the back is a DVI input however from the Geforce it's HDMI. Do I need to get an adapter or something? The HDMI cable plugs into the screen no problem however it keeps saying it's missing Input and please plug in cable.

Maybe I need this thing?

https://matrixwarehouse.co.za/148-dvi-d-to-hdmi-adapter.html

EDIT: This is the cable I have but it still won't work.

https://www.comx-computers.co.za/CAB051-Unbranded-HDMI-to-DVI-Cable-2m-long-Buy-p-172180.php

EDIT 2 Scrap everything above. It's working. You have to make sure the DVI cable sits right flush against the female adapter and that it's screwed and fitting in properly otherwise it won't make a connection.

Obvious to some yes but clearly not to me :p
