Hi

Looking for some feedback on the build below, gaming pc R12000. Anything missing parts, or parts I should swap out?

ASUS AS-H81 Gamer Motherboard - Socket 1150
Cooler Master K280 Black USB3.0 Chassis - No PSU
Corsair - VS Series VS650 650W Power Supply Unit
Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3-1600MHz Module
Intel Core I5 4690 Processor 3.50Ghz 6MB Cache SKT 1150
MSI nVidia GeForce GTX960 Gaming 2GB GDDR5 Graphic Card
Transcend SSD370 2.5 Inch SATA 3 Solid State Drive - 128GB
WD Blue 1TB 3.5 inch SATAIII Hard Drive - 64MB Cache
How much does that come to, maybe add prices and we can find better deals.

What do you guys think of the Power PowerColor R9 390 GPU? Mine just landed Wednesday. Haven't opened the box yet coz I'm waiting for my new main board. Old one was killed by eskom

It comes to just over R12400 on takealot. Am I atleast in the correct direction?

It just seems like a lot, you can buy a i5 4590 for R1500 on Carbonite, a 240GB SSD for R1250. What do you need on the R1400 motherboard that you won't get on the MSI Intel H81M-P33 for R673, 3TB for R1100.

Just did a rough calculation in my head and you can build a system with:

GTX 970
8GB DDR3 1600
240GB SSD
i5 4590
3TB HDD
550W PSU
MSI Intel H81M-P33
Your choice of case

for around the same you are paying, I think it's even a bit less, and all items I listed are new.

Yeah no you can do way better than that, that GTX960 is almost R1k more than what you can get one for. Don't rush your purchase, we'll get back to you with better pricing/sources soon, got flu & knackered so will have a look tomorrow.

The rest of you guys can list the 'reputable' Carbonite deals so long, I'm sure PotterH has some CPUs going & some other chap has the SSDs on going.

Soul Assassin's build is looking pretty sweet btw ;)

Rebeltech/Wootware's Galax range plus tray OEM i5 cpu's from carbonite.

Our budget conscious forum peeps little secret.

PSU is the VS550 from Wootware and the HDD is also from PotterH on Carbonite.

Just ordered an I5 from potterh. Seems legit. Think I'm going to 'steal' that mobo suggestion.

Cheers

Both those guys are legit, good seller rating & if they were crooked they would have been banned ages ago. Plenty people here have purchased from them, great deals.

I've got the same MB, only thing to keep in mind is that it has no usb3 headers for front chassis ports but it does have rear usb ports and usb2 headers for the front which is fine by me.

Yeah, I'm still running my 6850. If my mobo didn't go I'd have upgraded my gfx card. Will that PSU you recommended power a GTX 970?

Yeah, doubt the entire system under full load will need more than 320W. There are better PSUs though budget permitting.

Not really build news but there's a shortage of AM1 Athlon cpu's for some reason (possibly lack of demand). Been looking into building a small PC for kicks and wanted an AMD 5350 (mostly for the slightly higher clock speed than the 5150).

Will possibly get it from Raru's import facility.
