The PC Build Thread

So I know this has been asked alot but wanting to upgrade my PC - currently i7 6700 (non K).

Was thinking of going with Ryzen. I know the 3 series is being launched soon so want to know price wise if it makes sense to wait for that or go with a 2600 or 2700 as their prices aren't that bad at the moment.

I am travelling to Portugal and UK end of the month but will be back home before 7 July unfortunately so no luck in getting it there.

I know pricing aren't confirmed yet for 3 series but thought I could maybe get the mobo in the meantime. I looked for X570 boards but those too aren't releases yet.

I have found this board: Asus ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING (currently on special). Is that a good board to buy or is there something better in that price range? Are the B450 boards good for Ryzen or should I be looking at X470 (their prices seem alot more than B450's tho).

If the X570 won't be too overpirced I can always try pick one up when I travel but worried the launch prices will be high and miss out on any good deal now.

I have Trident Z 3200 Ram I will be using in the build with a 1080ti.

I also have plans to run a custom water loop in the near future (once I have decided on upgrade path) if that is useful at all?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be great,

So I'm trying to find a new case in the meantime for my upcoming upgrade.

I am really keen on a custom Waterloop so looking for the best case in the absolute max R3k zone.

I was thinking if the Corsair 570X RGB but then found this - Lian-Li PC 011 Black - https://www.loot.co.za/product/lian...htoxZcflvyaviv_MUTTEm2M8R9IYdBQBoCTg0QAvD_BwE

I love the openess and the space.

What do you think or is there something better in that price range?

Does anyone have any feedback regarding this water loop kit from EK: EKWB Kit P240

It seems to include everything I need. If I order the CPU block and res and pump combo it works out to R4kish thats without radiator, fittings, tubing etc so seems a good deal? I will then need to buy the GPU block separate but from what I have read you are able to add on to this kit so that shouldn't be a problem.

If anyone can let me know that would be great.

You should ask on Carb too, a lot of the guys there know way more about this stuff.

Also you're going down a deep dark pit:

I like desktop... I just ordered one of these. Seems to have plenty of room.

Yeah will go ask on carb too now.

WOW that is a whole different level to what I want to do (for now :) ).

I just priced all the pieces you get in the kit to buying it individually and works out to R6935 so a saving of about R1k if buying from Wootware.

So alot of decisions to be made but am very keen on waterloop tho.

Would that case I linked too - the P600S - work with this or should I go a different route? Want a nice big open space to show off the inside :)

Just ordered myself a new Nvidia graphics card - Zotac GeForce RTX 2070. Witcher 3, Here I come!

You're probably going to want that Lian Li case then:

One day when I am big will have one looking like that.

My only concern with the Lain-Li is that the pump/res you get with the kit isn't the tallest and it might look lost whereas with the P600s you get the full screen glass cover but has the PSU cover too which gives it a little height (make sense). Also has vertical GPU mounting (Wootware only getting stock of the cable in July tho).

The radiator will need to be mounted to top of the case in Lian-Li as exhaust and then maybe mount the pump bottom right of the case (it has a bracket that can connect to standard 120mm fan) so not sure how it will look appearance wise with soft tubing.

Why is this so tricky to decide on...

I see Wootware have it in stock now and also on sale so might just go for it.
You can't really ask other people about cases, if they all support the stuff you need it's down to you of which one you think looks best.

Yeah 100% agree. I was going to go for the Corsair 570X for the full glass look but cable management is ugly on the back side so gave up on that one.

Just trying to see if the vertical GPU cable comes included with the case or if I need to buy it separate and if so where to get it from - so once I find that out then it will make my decision easier as I want to mount GPU vertically.

This is turning out to be a very expensive project - R13k so far and that's just the Kit, 1080ti Strix Waterblock (no backplate) and new case.

Never thought the waterblock for GPU would be nearly R4k and then another R1k for the backplate so basically a price of a GPU.

Might have to do this in stages then it seems.
