As you well know, the money has been spent. And the prices you are quoting are now 3 months later.

As usual with buildzoid, his focus is extreme overclocking so bear that in mind with his recommendations.

What CPU did you get with it? As the RX470 might be the bottle neck.Build my PC from wootware, they have excellent service! I am living in JHB and delivery was a quick 3 day and had everything needed. I would recommend them any day do not matter if you live in the cape or not...
Asus 470x-F board runs good boost go all the way up to 4.2Ghz pre updated the bios free of charge which is nice. Bought the board for the onboard audio and did not disappoint, better than the SB extreme gamer I had. Basically overall good performance, but I think many apps and games do not utilize so many cores. Maybe I need to upgrade my RX470 but still does the job...
AMD 3600What CPU did you get with it? As the RX470 might be the bottle neck.
So look at Carbonite.co.za for a decent second hand dealAMD 3600
RX470 will be the bottleneck, but these new card are ridiculously expensive!
I think my old 2500K @ 4.5Ggz did a great job considering its age, but stared getting unstable. no matter what I tried.
Who is buildzoid?![]()
Dude, I don't overclock either. My last build is more or less 10 years, thanks to Prophecy Shop (I worked for them til they closed down).Sigh. Thanks for all the positive feedback folks.
Just so you know - not interested in overclocking. Just wanted a stonking build at price I was willing to pay. And one of the Wootware folks I trust was quite positive about this build.
Thought I recognised the name from their forums, surprisingly the old quad cores are still reasonably competent. With a decent newer GFX you could eek out a bit more life.Dude, I don't overclock either. My last build is more or less 10 years, thanks to Prophecy Shop (I worked for them til they closed down).
I've been hesitant to upgrade because why spend so much dosh every year when you can get a decent build and have it last you at least up to 10 years before needing to rebuild again because of old age, wear and tear? I'm on a tight budget so I can't justify R4000 for a CPU, it's just way too much.
My Sandybridge was a quad-core - played most games very well and I had a decent mid-range GPU too. I"m not one to chase the latest technology fad and only choose what I need.
Each to his own, it's your choice and your money, you pay for what you get.

Considering their age though? I mean where else in the past would a 5 to 6 year old chip still kind of allow you to play games? As an owner of one I'm gonna say nyet, it's become a bottleneck in aaa games.
). The thermal paste was also everywhere!!! It was only on for about 30 minutes total. So had to clean every part of CPU. Luckily CPU fitted perfectly back into socket and retention arm locked it in place.
Same happened to me. Even though the CPU was locked down , it came undone attached to the stock coolerSo parts arrived.
I decided to just use the cooler that came with the 3700X and make sure the bios updated to support 3rd Gen and to install windows fresh on the 970 Evo Plus.
Once done I disconnected everything and when trying to remove the cooler it seemed really stuck (was original thermal paste that comes pre-appied on cooler). I remember hearing about this from YouTube videos and online forums so twisted it a bit to try pry it loose and the whole CPU popped out still stuck to the cooler (with retention arm still down). Tomorrow the "fun" starts when I get to start planning and bending the hard line for the water-cooling.
