Finally time to upgrade the gpu.

Got a Rtx 3070 new from carb for R12800.

Its the best time to sell now for me as my rx 5700xt is valued at between 7000 to 8000 due to everyone wanting it for mining.

So I'm currently looking to do a low-power home server type of thing. I've been intrigued by Asrock's mini-ITX boards, or the odroid H2+. But I'm not really finding anyone local with stock, and even then, one needs a case that can fit the board plus a couple of 2.5" hard drives.

Anyone done anything like this before?

Yes, I have two of them.

One is a Ryzen 5 3400G that I underclocked to 3.3Ghz running at 1 volt, I use that as my current home server inside a In-winn Choppin case.

The other is my former home server, which I am actually using right now as my PC at our holiday house. It is one of these : https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=973 I got off takealot for about R2000, added cheap RAM and a R600 HuntKey H702 case. I can highly recommend it.

Interesting info, thanks Roux. Those boards look decent for the price. Where did you buy the In-win?

R.e. the huntkey - was it your youtube video that DuckDuckGo dredged up for me? I love your solution for fitting in the SSD. (Probably won't quite work for my application though ;-)

The In-win I got from Wootware when they were still in stock. I have been meaning to rebuild into a HuntKey as well so if you want a "like new in box all accessories included" Choppin let me know and I will sell it on. The PSU that In-win comes with is amazing, tiny, quiet and efficient.

LOL, yes, that would be me breaking open that WD Green to fit it inside the HuntKey. This is the reason why I replaced the A10 with the Ryzen as my home server :
Xonotic is single threaded and the shared FPU on Bulldozer did not cut it.

This past week I have been working on the A10 all week and it is awesome is daily use, Teams meetings, remoting into production / development environments. Playing Xonotic and watchin youtube. Considering how much less this rig cost me than my main R7 4750G at home I am very impressed with the value it offers.

PM me if you do decide to sell the Chopin!

Thanks for the input, very useful.

Have a Radeon RX 560 GPU, every now and then, screen goes black for a few seconds, or it flashes weird patterns, then goes green, ( 4-6 seconds ) and returns to normal.

Figure it is time for a new GPU ... , happy with the general performance, so I guess I don't need anything too awesome.

Looking to spend around R2000.00 bit more possibly.

Check on carb
Should get 1060 3gb or if a lucky a 6gb in your budge

...but if I were you I’d first check that your cable connections aren’t loose. :)

Seems the HDMI socket, on the GPU is not as tight as it could be. Put in another HDMI cable, which fits a bit tighter, and so far it seems to have fixed the issue, but Footie is now on, will check it out after the game.

Been years since I did a custom build. Last build was an Athlon o_O

A few compatibility questions for the new build, online am getting conflicting answers.

Can I run a Ryzen 1600 AF with 3200MHz ram? Specifically looking at pairing with the G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GVKB Ripjaws:

Also looking to pair the CPU and RAM with a Gigabyte B450M gaming mobo, any issues with the combo?

Technically the 1600AF supports upto 2667MHz RAM but you can always overclock it to run at 3000 or 3200 if it's stable. Otherwise it will just run successfully at 2667.

The mobo will be totally fine.

Awesome, makes total sense now. There is no price difference on 2666 vs 3200, so i guess it opens me up to a possible CPU upgrade down the line if it doesn't clock well. On my way to "checkout".

I have the 1600AF with 3600 RAM, could only get it to run at 3200 with the defaults on the mobo, couldn't get higher to work with the RAM calculator etc. But I have no idea what I am doing there so it is prob just me.
