Would a 3950x for R8k 2hnd be worth it?

It's quite a beast of a CPU!

They seem to be selective in that.

I generally post good reviews because mostly the service is great. But I have posted a mediocre review for an item that was faulty and then the replacement had a missing part (that was in the first order). They simply never published that review which is still visible on my account.

I built my PC around the start of 2021 on a budget (spending no more than R3000). I ordered everything from takealot.

Here are the specs:
CPU: 3.5GHz Dual-Core AMD Athlon 3000G
Motherboard: Gigabyte A320M-S2H-CF
RAM: 8GB-DDR3
Storage: 500GB SATA

Managed to write my university thesis with this build, so editing documents works quite well. I've also been able to play some older titles as well such as CS:GO and Team Fortress, they run quite well. Overall I'm really impressed with the 3000G, it's a really neat processor.
 
New PC time! I'm already seeing some good prices, just holding out for a deal on CPUs

CPU + Mobo - grouped together because I need a whole new platform so I have two options
5800X + decent mobo (MSI B550M Mortar I think) - €525
i5-12600K + decent mobo - €535
Not too keen on the 5600X since I think the extra cores from the 5800X will come in handy soon (aligning with console core counts)

M2 SSDs - I've got some options that are essentially the same price and one thats cheaper
Samsung 970 Evo Plus
Samsung 980 (cheapest of the lot by 20%)
Kingston A2000
WD Blue SN550
Is there any other 1TB M2 drive I should consider? Think it'll be tough to beat the value proposition of the 980 though

RAM - 32GB is non negotiable. Speed not less than 3200, CAS 16. With some luck I can bump it to 3600 and call it a day. Don't think I'm willing to go for B-die sticks since they are about twice the price, but should I rather buy RAM that is rated for 3600 out the box?

GPU - I'm too poor to upgrade that :p

PSU - I'm running a 10 year old Seasonic 750W Gold Plus. I reckon it's still good but perhaps it would be wise to switch it out with a new rig?

Comments, suggestions?
 
Hey guys so I am planning on building a PC and I have all the components I am most likely to buy, I just wanted to ask some questions before I go through with it. (I have 2 CPUs on the list because I am waiting for blackfriday... hopefully something will go on sale and I can get a 5900X)

My main use will be gaming and game dev on unreal engine.
So I just wanted to ask:
1. I am going to have wootware build it for me, but I am just paranoid, is there any components I have that are bad quality/could be replaced with something better for minimal price diff?
2. Is my motherboard fine? I dont know anything at all about motherboards and something I just wondered is about wifi... will I be able to connect to my wifi with this setup? (Might be a silly question)
3. Just wondering if there is an alternative CPU cooler I could buy... because it looks like my one is out of stock.

That version of the Aorus Elite doesn't come with wifi so you either need to get the wifi version or a wifi adapter.

The Aorus Elite is a fine motherboard...it's actually overkill in power-delivery terms for a 5900x. But it's also pretty reasonably-priced so I wouldn't necessarily look for something cheaper.

I'd check with Wootware about a cooler when you're placing the order - they generally have the Phanteks air coolers in stock being the local outlet for Phanteks. They also added Scythe stuff recently though they're a little pricier. The Fuma 2 is pretty solid though.

Is it worth getting a AIO water cooler for an AMD CPU vs just an upgraded CPU fan?

Also I saw up in the discussion people said there are issues with the Mushkin SSD. (about it failing easily). I was wondering if you knew anything about it/alternatives

Which AMD CPU?

I have an AIO on my 5600X with PBO enabled, and it usually runs at around 60C in basic tasks, sometimes up to 75/80C when gaming (and 95C in CineBench). Also pissed because the white LEDs on the pump turned yellow conveniently just outside of the return period (known Corsair quality issue apparently).

I really wish I'd gone for air now.

P.S: I specifically ask which CPU because the 5000 series DO run a bit toasty out the box.

Yes I'll probably be getting a 5600x or similar. I do a bit of rendering from time to time which might cause heat issues and I'm assuming throttling.

That'll work though that board isn't in the same class as the Aorus WiFi (it's like a grand cheaper so that's to be expected). Make sure you have good airflow through the case as it will get toasty when the 5900x hits top gear.

I stick to Samsung and Sabrent more recently for SSD's...the price difference is worth the peace of mind, personally.
