How are the Palit brand/make for gpus?

Finally, if basically the same price: rx 6700 xt, 3060 ti or 3070?

Also 3600mhz seems to be the best option for a Ryzen 5800X + 550 (m/b)?

Been looking myself and probably going to do 3070.

Pretty set on nvidia as it stands, mostly because it seems like DLSS is more prevalent
 
Whats a decent modular 750W power supply under R1k?

Such a thing doesn't exist.

 
Sorry I was thinking of a 650W, why does the price jump so heavily when you go from 650W to 750W?
And other than having a beast of a grfx card that needs a lot of watts to run is there any advantage to having such a big power supply?

No, what components do you have?

Even 550W will be more than enough for most people (ie. 8-core cpu & rtx 3070) but the price difference between 550W & 650W is only ~R200.

There is also overclocking and powerful CPUs.
I read somewhere that some PSU's conk out because the RTX 3000 series have a very short lived spike that's higher than the rated power draw.

The better ones are also more efficient, use longer life components etc. I think my 850W's fan doesn't even come on until 50% utilization.

Then there's also longevity. As the PSU ages, the amount of power it can deliver becomes less.

I dont want to play 1080p on a 32” 4K, and I believe that 1440p doesn’t really scale well on a 4K.
I have no interest in buying a 2nd 1440p high refresh rate monitor at this point.

Definitely don’t need ultra quality, but would like 60fps (monitor is also obvs only 60hz). DLSS performance/quality.

God of war, horizon zero dawn, probably CP2077, and whatever other awesome games come out that I cannot play on my series x.

Just wondering in general how you find gaming at this resolution with this card.

I don't think that is correct. I spent my life working on and around power supplies of many designs. Outputs do not deteriorate with age. There are basically 3 reasons to replace a power supply:
1. It is faulty and uneconomical to repair.
2. Newer technology is more efficient and/or has improved functionality, to the point that it is economically viable to replace.
3. When the risk profile of aging equipment is higher than the appetite for in-service failure.

Each game is different, cp2077 for example runs like crap so forget about running it at 4k native. You could however switch to high settings, dlss balanced, rtx off and get 60+fps.
Your best bet is to look at benchmarks on youtube for the games you want to play, if you cant do native 4k look at the dlss presets.



If a game doesn't support dlss you can look at enabling NIS in nvidia control panel.

I think you'll be ok.

I wouldn't really know. Back in the day I read that capacitor aging played a part in its ability to output power, and some powersupply calculators even had a field for how long you intended to keep it.

I never had one suddenly not output enough power with no changes in the system, but then again I usually overspec a little.

I have no interest in modern games - but gaming in 4K is bliss. Me and a couple of guys play Xonotic daily and since going 4K I enjoy it so much more. Not being a demanding game means I can play it just fine on my integrated Vega 8 graphics.

Fully agree that capacitors age. So does silicon, especially if subjected to extreme heat. Replacement of a power supply to address these would be based on 2 of the points I raised earlier:

1. It goes bang one day, because eg a cap has failed. It is faulty and uneconomical to repair.

3. It's getting old and you get scared that it may go bang and damage other components of the PC as well. The risk profile of aging equipment is now higher than the appetite for in-service failure.

PS: the "power supply calculators" on various websites try to help determine Point 3, similar to the criteria that SSD manufacturers provide (total bytes written, etc)

bit the bullet and placed an order for a "Zotac GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Gaming Trinity OC Edition" (obviously next week the price is going to drop by another R1K :ROFL: )

so going from a RX480 4GB to a 3070 Ti should be quite nice :p
