Raytracing definitely makes a difference if it includes reflections and global illumination.
My mate who finished Cyberpunk on his 1070 was seriously impressed when he tried Cyberpunk at night on Psycho RT on my PC, and now they even added the Overdrive mode with pathtracing that is on another level.

But some raytracing implementations are bad, mostly the ones with just shadows and poorly implemented RTAO that don't look that different from good shadows and HBAO+.

Ray tracing is fantastic , but it’s not so fantastic that I’d sacrifice frame rate for it, most of the time. 144hz often feels better than ray tracing looks.

That’s why you want DLSS.

I just upgraded mine on a ''budget'' (~17K), putting to rest my 7-year old GTX 970 and finally moving on from a mechanical drive. I hadn't looked into PC part prices since around 2020 and good lord, the price of GPUs is insane. I'm guessing the ravages of crypto mining are still being felt, with the rand obviosuly not helping either?

Ryzen 5 1600 AF -> Ryzen 7 5700X (I regret not stretching it to a 5800X in hindsight, but it is what it is)
GTX 970 -> RX 6700
B450M PCIe 3 -> B550M PCIe 4
16 GB RAM -> 32 GB RAM
HDD -> M.2 SSD

Biggest difference I noticed was the move from HDD to SSD. Left that waaaay too long. Graphics also jumped exponentially, with an average increase of ~80% in FPS. I'm also impressed with how cool the 5700X runs. I didn't get the fanciest cooler, it's an ID Cooling SE-207 Slim, and it idles in the low 30s, averages around the mid 50s to mid 60s under load and I haven't seen it go beyond the 70s under extreme load. It runs cooler than my 1600 AF did with the stock Wraith cooler. Both the 5700X and RX 6700 are also very power efficient.

All things considered, I'm very happy with it.

EDIT: Upgrade was a Ryzen 7 5700X, not a Ryzen 5.

Even if just replaced the hdd with ssd I would feels 100000% faster

Hi Everyone,

I need some help and or opinions, I'm thinking of upgrading my system to:
-- Core i5-13600K
-- ASRock B760M PG SONIC WIFI DDR5 -- becuase of price
-- G.Skill Flare X5 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000MHz CL32 1.35V
-- Noctua D9L NH-D9L -- because of hight
Pairing it with my RTX 3070.

Will be using my existing system (i5- 8600) as a NAS.

Any other suggestions or options are welcome.

What about ryzen? I see some sellers basically sell it leas than cost on Carbonite

Is this for gaming? If so what resolution?
For gaming, most of your performance comes from the GPU. a 13100F and 3080 will game better than a 13600 and 3070.

Ideally you want to upgrade your GPU even if it means less of an upgrade to the CPU, if this is for gaming.

Yes, it will be mainly used for gaming. I have a 27" 4k monitor.
Sorry for my ignorant questions, how could a 13100f be better?
Arent it about core and threads?

Well the 13600 is better than a 13100F, you're right.

However, for gaming, it's not the CPU that determines gaming performance really. It does to a degree, but the graphics card is really what determines performance for gaming. Especially at higher resolutions.

Do you have a budget in mind? If so, we can help put together options for you. What you have above is perfectly fine, nothing wrong with it at all. I just think for gaming, you could do better with different upgrades.

The 5700X and 5800X will be very, very similar. The 5800X3D would be worth the extra money, but not the 5800X imo.

That does seem to be the online sentiment wherever I checked. The 5800X3D maxes out the AM4 socket.

Unfortunately, that was just a bit out of range for my budget, especially as I was replacing the GPU as well, so I tried to hit the sweet spot of a punchy mid-range GPU and CPU.

Okay, great thanks.

Ja, I have a budget of R15k.

How do you all combat GPU sag?

My GTX 970 developed a bad case of the sags over its life and this new RX 6700 is an absolute unit (long and heavy), so it will inevitably sag as well. I got myself this, but unfortunately it is not as universal as described. The extension is a touch too short to reach my GPU, so I am either going to have to mod it somehow by sticking a piece of plastic on the extendable part so it can reach my GPU or I will have to consider something else.

Some cases allow you to also mount the GPU upright, with a riser cable going to the motherboard.
Maybe yours does.

Quite easy to 3D print something to fit (random internet image).
