The Positives in SA thread

What a sad thread. Is this all the good that can be found? LG you are absolutely right. I would like to see who can debunk that.

The only positive about ZA is my friends and family are MOSTLY all here STILL.

A lot of friends are already abroad.
A lot of my family have gone to look for work there, or are organising paperwork etc at the moment.
So, soon, that will be gone.

It is dishonest, to claim as a positive, "we have milk". WOW!

It is also dishonest to think that other countries do not have better weather / food / braais / women ....

And AGAIN, I feel it needs to be said: What "weather" in SA are you talking about? Gautengs bitterly cold and dry winters, or Cape Towns milder and WET WET WET windy winter?
Gauteng's hot and rainy summers? Cape Towns blistering hot and dry summers (with wind), or the humid hell that is Durban?

Sorry, but if those are your positives, then I should not mock. Let me add a few for you:

I have not been murdered yet
I have only had my car broken into once.
We have world class bottled water!
We can still get fuel!

Moederloos, would you say that England has better weather then?

You guys are going to find this link funny: http://www.sagoodnews.co.za/the_future/south_africans_are_among_the_worlds_optimists_in_2008.html

I never said so - however, I quite like the rain - I like to look out and see green hills and so on. If I were to choose between hot and cold, I would choose cold - every time. However, that is neither here nor there really - but does highlight the fact that using the weather is a subjective opinion.

I did say:
1) SA does not have uniform weather - claiming that the weather is good is being way too general. Some of my family live in Namaqualand, they are not overly fond of the weather - their sheep are barely surviving - go tell them "the weather is fantastic".
2) A lot of other countries have the same weather as us - or better.

The "weather is great argument" is not a "positive". It is a stretch to try and pull something from the air.

Out of curiosity where did you live overseas that there was such an abundance of rolling green hills? :)

Well it seems I am equally chastised for being positive as for being negative about this country.

Personally I believe the attractions and benefits of living here still outweigh both the problems here and the advantages overseas.

I guess the last item in my list is the most important -

We still have hope. I hope.

I am unsure as to why people are going out of their way to make this weather thing a positive - and defending it with rather flimsy questions like that, and "would you say that England has better weather then? ".

In addition, it really makes no difference where I have stayed, nor what countries have these features - open google and search. Although, I am sure, that is not your point. You are using that line of questioning in an attempt to derail my argument.

Rather, why not debate the main thrust - that weather is subjective, and not a good "positive" - as well as that weather is vastly different in different parts of SA.

On the contrary - I was merely showing an interest in a fellow world travellers experiences - if anything I should be chastised (**naughty bwana**) for a brief excursion into OffTopica.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to be so defensive - is your fondness for green hills theoretical?

Anyhow - as subjective as it may be I find the weather most temperate and a far cry from the harshness I've had to endure in the past.

The Weather: yes, it's good. Port Elizabeth has amazing weather, when the wind dies down to a light, 20kts zephyr.

The Life-Style: Braai, Beer, Biltong, Boerwoors and Broads (5 B's) and Potjiekos, all under a clear sky.

That is where it ends, for me.
