The Proteas - Our Team!

Not in t20 cricket. A strikerate of 150 is world class.
Must separate his inconsistent odi performance and t20. He is probably our third best t20 bat behind qdk & Miller.
If you're striking at 150 but scoring little, what help does that do?

It makes no sense to have maharaj or fortuin over linde. Maharaj hasn't played one international t20 game and linde has done better than fortuin. It must be quotas.
I read Mpitsang's reasoning behind selecting Fortuin and it makes no sense whatsoever. He reasons Fortuin is an outright spinner while Linde is an allrounder. Never mind the fact Linde is the incumbent in the T20 side. This sounds like gloss over something else.
You'd want someone who can handle a bat if required.

Maharaj is in for “leadership potential”. Same as Bavuma, guys aren’t given a chance to establish themselves in the limited overs side and then immediately lined up for leadership roles.

Mpitsang added that Maharaj provides the team with an extra string with his leadership credentials.

"Kesh is an excellent leader. He has the backing of the team and us as a panel. He has more than proven his leadership skills in the Dolphins set up and reinforced our good decision during the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which ended on Tuesday," said Mpitsang.

I have a horrible suspicion about why they feel they need a back-up leader. Do they plan to undermine the original captain if the tournament is going badly?

Joe Root doesn't make the England t20 side because while his average maybe higher then most of their batsmen except dawid malan at 35. His strikerate of 126 is considered not good enough.

There were interesting comments made that they should've included root because he can also bowl decent spin. He's also in good form so he could play an 'anchor' role like hash used to do for us.

Out of interest, I just saw that KG Rabada has a better strike rate than all.

Will be interesting to see how Rabada ends as he has now entered the peak of his powers. It's a pity that he had to enter the peak at this time in history.

Its like Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh bowling for those atrocious 90s Windies teams.

The quota coach strikes again

I guess Kohli is not World class then. Malan has a similar strike rate.

Exactly his point. He's been playing and excelling in T20 leagues but no call ups to national team

Yeah, as far as I know, he’s been available. CSA didn’t renew his contract a few years ago.

Why was he then expecting to be in the team?
Would it be fair to the guys who have actually been playing in the last 2.6 years if one was dropped for Tahir?

Its kinda like Naas complaining that he isn't in the Rugby championship.

He didn't do anything wrong to be dropped in the 1st place and again. He's been playing globally and excelling.

I would also have kept him in the side, that is not the point.

The point is that he was not selected for 2.6 years, so obviously you won't be selected for the world cup?
Some other players are being selected so thay wil play.

Can this guy not take a hint?
