The Proteas - Our Team!

Good point,
But then this also goes to show you anyone can get klaped on the day, even Langeveldt got smacked, and Langeveldt was a very good line and length bowler. Roelof van der Merwe was the pick on the bowlers on that day... :D

What was Langeveldt's most conceded over?

If you are talking about "that game" it was Telemachus you are refering too, and that was his own fault, he bowled 4 no-balls which accounted for 15 runs as it went for runs too (and he was still the pick of the bowlers).

Edit: I see, that game is not "that game"

I heard Kyle Abbot now holds the world record for most runs conceded In a international pro20, he conceded 68 runs in his 4 overs against the windies @ the wanderers

And a fair job with the ball too:

Botha1.jpg

Adelaide Strikers won by 23 runs

The Strikers have sealed their semi-final berth with that win. They were on well on course for a big win as the Sixers never got going, but Jordan Silk played a blinder to make the match a little bit interesting. He took a special liking to Kane Richardson as he spoiled the fast bowler's figures. Silk's fifty was the fastest ever for the Sixers in the competition and his effort ensured his side didn't lose by a huge margin - which would've affected their NRR.

Edit: Johan Botha comfortably earned the man of the match in outing. He still has the 'mojo' :)

I heard on the radio this morning, that Brett Lee has officially retired from all forms of cricket.

Another great knock from Botha:

Rimmington to Botha, OUT, Botha tries for another reverse sweep, he gets down to a full delivery on middle and off, gets it at the toe end of the bat which went flat towards short third man, Pattinson dives to his right and holds that.

J Botha c Pattinson b Rimmington 32 (19b 2x4 1x6) SR: 168.42

...and 1/24 with the ball as well as a win with the team as captain.

Yeah, the other guys was Jonathan Trott, we all know he is definitely not capable of that, unless of course, the pitch was a road.
Extremely difficult for you guys to give credit where due huh?, If it was Bavuma that scored the double century, wonder what would you guys have said then, it would probably have been the best bowling attack since Waqar Younis & Wasim Akram
TdB is new&inexperienced. For that alone he deserves credit. Many batsmen have failed given the same opportunity. QdK, SvZ&RR didn't exactly excel when playing for the A side initially.

This guy has taken to it like a duck to water. No one has been this good first up. He got 202* int he first match. this is the 2nd one. Surely both pitches weren't roads.

Dafuq is "you guys"
Hes not good enough, too many people are hounding on one hit wonders for place in the side.
One hit does not a good batsmen make, nor does it show potential, Oh he hit a 200, big bloody deal is what im saying.

Levi, Miller, now Rilee. They made one or two big scores doesnt mean they fit for the national side.
Behardien is good for the cut into the national side, he is failing miserably though as did many others. he deserves his shot, he just lucky the timing is for the WC.

AB de Villiers was, rightfully, widely praised for his fastest ODI century, but I think the majority of cricket supporters would rather see him score a 100 in a crunch world cup game, than plummet WI bowlers in a ODI Game.

Why can't he produce the results in a world eliminator game?

For the record, AB played 15 world cup games, 3x100, 3x50 and 3xduck. 725 runs @ 51 average and 104 strike rate.
Those numbers don't look bad, but the 3 centuries game against WI(146&107*) and Netherlands (134).

In the 2011 world cup he scored:
WI 107*,NETHERLAND 134, ENGLAND 25, INDIA 52, NZ 35(QF that SA lost)
the numbers suggest that when "the going gets tough, the runs dry up"

There is no disputing that AB is the best ODI batsman in the world, but for him to truly cement his place amongst the greats, he has to produce the goods in crunch world cup games.

Omg, this game is so boring and predictable. WI, I'm so disappointed :/

Lots of politics in their cricket council. The players are not happy that Bravo and Pollard are left out.
I dont think they care, especially Gayle.

He was well set vs nz till Faf ran him out...

Oh my god! Someone is questioning the great AB ... on MyBB?

If AB opens he will truly be among the greats. In India everyone is going mad that Kohli is batting at four instead of three. While Dhoni argues he balances the top&middle order from there. Its called a defeatist&defensive attitude there, while here it's lauded. #4/5 in ODIs for a player of his class? Hardly surprising that he's never had an opportunity to make an impact at a WC. From that position he'll almost always be chasing the game against bowlers&fielders who have their tails up. Even grandad Oram had Faf&AB in knots. That's what pressure does so we shouldn't fault Faf.

You forgot to close your post with /opinion

Do you think Ponting isn't a great player? Or Kallis? Or going further back, Sir Viv? None of those guys opened either...

Noted. True. But 2 of the best bowlers in the world weren't only on their side. Even if they were, all Test teams from Australia to Zimbabwe had quality bowlers. You can't compare the bowlers those guys faced (add cricket rules, equipment etc), to the attacks AB, Kohli & Co face now.

Look at all the teams doing the rounds now and the attacks are pitiful. Even worse with the ICC's latest spinner witchhunt.

I've stated this before. Mathews, Root, Kohli, Steve Smith, Ballance, Wiliamson, Shafiq, Darren Bravo, Rahane, Shakib etc are all cashiing in. Scoring runs&centuries at an equally fast rate or better than AB. Some of them bat higher than him at 3/4.

Chances of them ending with 60+ averages are very high. Mathews, Root, Kohli, Steve Smith, Darren Bravo & Williamson will all have captaincy duties too (maybe Shafiq for Pak soon too). Some of them bowling. But will still be able to maintain the high standards despite the double/triple load - bat-bowl-captain.

Like it or not when his career is evaluated it will be mentioned what kind of bowlers he faced. The average Cricinfo article discussing any player's legacy dissects all of that, as well a those making comments below.

Bottomline is nowadays teams have just one or two bowlers of genuine quality at any given time. Coming in to bat in the second session of the next day chasing a declaration target (Tests), or after they've bowled their main spells, and a re waiting for the death (ODIs7T20s) is hardly a challenge. All the more reason why those youngsters are excellenging.

It's not because they are truly great to the quality of Chanders, Laxman, Steve Waugh etc who batted five, it's just that attacks are no longer good enough to be said to hunt in real packs.

To be truly great you must be batting in the top 3. You migtht want to dismiss it as a mere opinion, but you'll struggle to discount how close it is to being a fact.
