I personally still don't think we'll see AB playing for SA again.

AB will play again. If he didn't want to stay involved he wouldn't be around the team.

Issue is going to be the NZ series. Who makes way for AB?

It will be Bavuma I think. Judging by the T20 squad, the selectors will get far ahead of the quota average for it not to be a concern with the Test side at least

They won't drop Bavuma unless we lose the first test where he fails.
The selectors would try their utmost not to tinker with the "transformation" process.

Hope Olivier play some shots and not be too worried about batting. Worst thing he tries to be a batsmen and take quick single only to run out Amla.

Maybe not a bad idea. Perhaps they should view him as a "free wicket", let him play a pinch hitting kind of role, and if he goes out for nothing, no loss, and if he makes 40 off 30, big win and moves the match forward a lot.

Bavuma kept the scorers again busy today. 0 from 2 balls.

I can tell you, as a scorer, that we absolutely hate it when a batsman scores a duck, particularly a golden duck. We've just barely entered the details for the previous wicket -- how out, over when out, time when out, balls faced, runs scored, minutes at the crease, bowler's name, fielder's name, partnership details, current score of the not-out batsman -- and then we have to do that all over again. Possibly before we've done with the first one, especially if it's a T20 where the batsman are expected to be at the crease within 90 seconds of the prior wicket.

I've regularly wanted to find whoever came up with the expression that a batsman dismissed for a duck "didn't trouble the scorers" and shoot them. Honestly, people must think that all we have to do is jot down a 0 and relax...

It's an expression...

Ab has told 702 he is not retiring from any format. But that his workload will be managed with the 2019 wc as the aim.

But he is available for test cricket. Says elbow is fully healed.

Hmm, 'managed'. I can't see this happening for AB. When he's not playing for SA, he's at the IPL and I won't be surprised if he takes up offers in the BBL and CPL too.

Not available for Nz test series so bavuma is safe.

The only reason I can see for not playing NZ tests is the imminent birth of second child... Or was there another reason why he is opting out of the test matches?
