The Q9450!!!

Im a serious gamer so I'd like the best CPU I can get up to R3000. That is all I'm going to spend on a CPU becuase I'm waiting for the precious Geforce 9800GTX! WKJ:Beanie says the Q6600 is not bad so that could probably be the one I take but I'm waiting to see how the E8xxxx series does.Let me know if you OC'ed or benched your E8xxx!

Nice to see people still talking about me after I'm gone, good thing I came to check my PMs :D

You'll probably do better with a dual core CPU than a quad core CPU for games, though ;)

managed 3.6 quite easily on stock cooler, priming both cores got me to 70 which is way to high for my liking (stock cooler :p 1.175v)

Only run Super Pi so far and at same clocks as Q6600 up until 3.6 it is destroying the quad (13 secs flat fastest so far for 1m)

Think ram may be holding me back waiting for some 1066 so that should help. But i will say this chip is F'ing quick.

Shall try some gaming and rendering tomorrow and see what happens (will also use a Zalman instead of stock cooling)

So far it is well worth it :)

Edit : Does anyone know why 3d mark2001 will work fine but 2003,5 and 6 just hang at the start up screen ie i do not even get to the 3dMark menu screen (does same when oc'ed and not oc'ed, totally clean install)

WOW!! If I can OC the Q6600 to 3.6 or 4GHz on air I'll take it! But has anyone tried to OC the E8200 or any E8xxx? I'd love to see some of their benchies! Thanx

im talking about the 8400 and 6700 is talking about 8200

you will never get your quaddie to those speeds on air

im not sure, it depends on your cooling in terms of air

stock cooling you wont but i have a watercooled cpu with 25cm attached

Just got my 8400 but still having fun playing with the 8200, will swap them tomorrow and see how high i can go on stock air and then with a Zalman and finally with my lousy aquagate :)

8200 presently priming at 3.2 at stock volts

Killadoob, which CPU do you think I should take mostly for gaming? But I'd like to overclock it aswell in the future. Any comments form all you other guys?

lousy aquagate?

i have the auqagate 120mm, and its friggen awesome

e8400 man, if you have the cash e8500 but the e8400 is a sweet cpu

lol the Therm 120 on my Q6600 rig kills the aqua when coming to cooling (plus i have to cool my NB when water cooling :)

If you do not plan on upgrading again this year then go for the Quad, if upgrading in the next 6 to 9 months then go with either the E8200 or E8400

Looks like i will have to take the E8200 to about 4.2 just to match the Q6600@3 in rendering (3ds Max) but for single core or even dual core apps the E8200 creams the quad

Edit : Fook this 3850 is hotter, way hotter than my 8800GT

These things are quite dodgy. The fan is locked at 30% and does not spin faster if the card gets hot.

Had to manually set my 3870 fan to 46% to stop it from going over 90 degs on basic tasks.

Rivatuner can be used for that.

Got rid of latest drivers and went with the ones that came with the card, temps seem fine right now, will test properly when i finally do some gaming with it

my ati card has never been hot

53 same as old gts

does 3dmax not use all 4 cores on your quaddie

well i dont know what aquagate u got but my aquagate works like adream keep my temps nice and low, i did put a faster quiter fan on the rad though

also the fan suck air from inside not outside, i use my 25cm to blow air in and my 120mm aquagate to suck it out

i got the one that requires nothing but bolting to the cpu, i dunno which one you bought
