The RC Car hobby thread

How old? If they are under 6 get a rock crawler.
The bronto can take some punishment but can get frustrating if it does break :(
Example of the rock crawler please? Son is 9 y/o. Dad slightly older :p

Pleasure they are really simple to start with. Going up to the HSP brusheless cars is more speed and can really be fun if you find a nice area to race it.

I know all about easy and speed and cost. Did some club 1/10 touring car racing back in the day. Man that was expensive for parts every other weekend

Which hobby shop did you buy the motor from? In all honesty most of them don't know what the hell they're talking about and will talk tons of nonsense to get a sale. I sometimes ask really stupid questions to the hobby shop staff because their answers are often very entertaining, but very very WRONG!! Unfortunately, there's very few shops that you can trust.

It was from RevoHobbies. Not their fault but my own I asked for an upgraded motor and it was cheap R200 (they bought all the stock from a closing hobby store). I had the brushed bronto thus got a brushed replacement motor.

He said it was a performance motor I was just to new/inexperienced to know what that means exactly.
Also the other guy in the shop advised against it.

It was like a bat out of hell for 5mins then something melted. Setup I have now with the brusless is perfect now.

Except I had a bad tumble which broke the front part of the chassis off. (ordered aluminium replacement :))

I have one of those JJRC q39 cars. Only ever had to replace the servo. It's more of a crawler but can probably reach a speed of about 20 kmh. I do strongly suggest though that if you buy this car you also get an extra battery and a proper charger. The stock charger literally takes 6 to 8 hours to charge the 1500mah battery, which is very frustrating. But this is a great car for child. My 9 year old nephew plays with it when he visits. And he's quite a savage!

Think i may still have the charger from back in the day somewhere in my disaster of a garage lol

Thx for the info, will look for a few deals

Thanks. Do batteries on this model really last 15-20 minutes ? Spec says 15-20 so I am guessing it cannot possibly last for more than 10 minutes, if that.
On the rock crawlers yeah they do seem to, they literally go at a bit faster then walking speed. But they just keep going.

As far as I know this little car uses nimh batteries. So ja, 10 to 12 minutes on a full charge. I'd rather get something a little more modern that can use lipos.

You and your lipos ;). For a rock crawler NiMH are fine. You'll have to look a bit harder for lipo brusheless rock crawlers. Think RC edge may have them.
Also on rock crawlers they really do last up to about 20min on little 700mah batteries.

It's possible and very likely that I'm a savage. Lol. Love lipos!

New toy. Lol. Yokomo YD2 RWD drift car. Equipped with gyro, 10.5t brushless motor, 60 amp esc and spektrum servo. Body is a 1970s Datsun 240z.
