The RC Car hobby thread

Necro time!

I think its time I build another car. Ive only built one now, but I almost enjoyed the building more than actually using it. My first build was a Tamiya King Yellow.

Thinking of either getting a Tamiya BBX or Tamiya Super Clod Buster.

Anyone else have this urge/problem

EDIT: These are the 2 Im looking at:

Yeah I didn't enjoy the rebuilding after adventures :(

So I am wanting to get into rc crawlers.. seems the cheapest way to get in is the MN82 based option out of China.. I would be perfectly happy with this option as a starting point to test the waters and would then look at the more known brands as my next upgrade if I get more into it..

Trouble is I am not finding stock.. my local brick and mortar, speed models, are waiting in a shipment, no ETA and I have no idea which online hobby shops are the real deal.. I have gone through the 14 pages in this thread and the recommended online shops are no more..

If any hobbyists out there can provide recommendations for legitimate online hobby shops or brick and mortar options in Cape town, would appreciate it..

These guys are down the road from me (Boksburg). See if they have what you looking for. I'm sure they can ship to you.

Based in Bellville and they are quite popular. No online store though.
I often drive from Strand to them for some RC parts. Very helpful bunch of okes.

Hoekal need to go there again soon for a new LiPo battery

Yeah, this is the local I mentioned in my post initially.. they don't have an ETA on stock for the MN82..

Have you tried BoyzToyz? I bought an Axial rock crawler from him many years ago. Collected from his place in Gordons Bay. If memory serves correctly his name was Ben. Not sure whether he stocks what you're looking for though.

Nothing listed on the site, will contact though..

Temu doesn't have, well unless they list it under something completely different.. have found their search to be utterly useless..

AliExpress and banggood do though, at really good prices too.. however, if there's a non-SAPO delivery option available, it's like 3k+ for shipping..

Right, picked up a zp1001 crawler..

Been for a spin a few times but today the steering has stopped returning to centre.. turn steering left and release and it will go past centre and same for the right.. steering trim works, but doesn't help to solve steering not returning to centre..

Wheels on the ground or in the air, does the same thing..

Any tips for troubleshooting..?

Did the RC car hobby die out in SA? I know there are still some clubs operating, but hobby shops are far and few.

I remember the days when our town had a very good hobby shop, race track, meets and races.

Some time ago, even Denkit closed down their store in Umhlanga and only have one in Shelly Beach. Have to order parts and things online. I like walking into a store and browse.
I mostly flew helicopters and that’s kinda died. Sold mine but I had a Goblin 380,500 , Align Nitro 700. Still have my 450 and a Micro 150.

Tamiya RC Cars - EVs that everyone loves - Petrol Ped

The memories, I wanted so many, Midnight Pumpkin, Clod Buster, Grasshopper, F150 Stadium Truck, one of the F1 cars, etc. I did race a TA-02 as a teenager for a number of years and then a few years back, quite a few, I managed to buy some of them and enjoyed them for a few years before I sold everything again. I foresee me buying some kits when my boys are older, they have a few Chinesium RC cars which they love...
