It's the draw from hell that makes me a non-believer.. Even our pool is one from hell. Tonga have 8 former all blacks eligible for selection under the new world rugby directives. They unlikely to beat us but it's another tough fixture we must navigate. Romania are the only soft touch in the pool stages...

So if we make it out of the pool stages we face either NZ or France in the quarters!!

The Scots fancy their chances of progressing. They'll need to beat us or Ireland for that to happen... but the point is they coming in amped!!
Add to that the lack of a goal kicker.

Manie is simply too inconsistent to be taken seriously and Pollard is a doubtful starter.

Our game plan in 2019 was grind upfront, milk the penalties, kick the kickables. We can't do that in 2023.

You can see our game plan is evolving, to a more expansive one, but we still quite some way off the best in the world...

The anthem visuals from Argentina were like a video game....

Exactly so when I hear stuff like running rugby doesn't win a world cup it's frustrating.

If we want to keep the world cup we need to be able to adapt.

If we are going to stick with the 2019 recipe then France, New Zealand and Ireland are going to run circles around us.

We need Grant Williams. He can also kick as well as Kolbe I think.

Think Boks management has missed the bus on Grant. He has zero test experience. Would be a big risk taking him. I do rate him though. Very dynamic player, would select him above Jayden and Jantjies... we got bucket loads of decent 9's. Faf, Jaden, Jantjies, Williams, Reinach...

Wings too, can't leave Moodie at home after yesterdays performance. Personally I don't think Mapimpi's had the sort of season that vindicates selection but he comes with a feel good factor, he's a team favourite with a good story.

In fact the squad likely to look something like this.... Possibly the oldest squad in the RWC (2027 squad is going to look very different)...

Malherbe 32 (36)

Amazing comeback from Scotland considering the yellow and and red card. France peaked to soon in my opinion and RSA, NZ or IRE will win the world cup.

They may have but that was a French 2nd team. 2 of RSA, FR, NZ or Ireland won't make it past the quarter finals...

Agreed but think the French are to emotional espcaily in France but agreed pool system not Ideal with 4 favourites on the same dide of the draw

I don't rate your nr12. He is the same mould as Damian, whom is great at what he does

We will go into the big games with the proven players. Dont think moodey is ready for starting lineup yet. But he will be a proper gem in coming years

Actually, when Esterhuizen has played recently, he's actually helped get the backline going, not the same one trick pony from before he went to Europe, imho of course. But him at 12, things have looked pretty solid.

After the performances Moody has put in, you'd leave him at home? Not one for rewarding form, rather reputation and crossed fingers the players fire?

No moodey must go with for sure. Top player. Just wouldn't start him in the big games. Thats where magic mapimpi and kolbe sits

I also can't see Kolbe and De Allende being left out in the must win games. Been there done that experience is worth gold in a pressurized environment and they've not really done any wrong to deserve being dropped.

I also can't see the south african rugby team progress beyond the first round...they may be lucky to make it to the quarter finals and come home after their match vs the All Blacks.

No way we aren't making it out of the pool...

From there on it will be tough.

But it will be tough for everyone from the playoffs..

Think this will be the most closely contested RWC in history...

Not one team is out right favourite.

It's going to be high pressure from the get go. First match is Scotland, a game both sides know they'll need to win to have any chance of making out the pools.

Team's been announced.

Pollard, Am and De Jager are injured and thus left out.
Flyhalf Handre Pollard (calf), Lukhanyo Am (knee) and Lood de Jager (chest problem) have been placed on standby with six other players. The Springbok coaches were hopeful that they may return to full training before the start of the tournament and be available for call-up in the event of injury.
Nienaber also announced that nine players would be placed on standby – five of whom will travel with the team to Cardiff and London for their last two World Cup warm-up matches against Wales (19 August) and New Zealand (25 August).

The nine players are Am (centre), Joseph Dweba (hooker), De Jager (lock), Jean-Luc du Preez (utility forward), Thomas du Toit (prop), Herschel Jantjies (scrumhalf), Pollard (flyhalf), Evan Roos (No 8) and Gerhard Steenekamp (prop). The five travelling to the UK on Saturday are Dweba, Du Toit, Du Preez, Pollard and Am.
