Well done to the Blitsbokke in getting a bronze medal. Did not think that was possible after the French game.
Oi Lions, what happened - losing to the Sharks at home!
What a comeback from the Bulls! Thought they were dead and buried at some point.

Some new laws and law amendment being trialed during the upcoming RC.

Happy to see that a skew throw in a line out will be play on if it is uncontested. Been calling for that for years.
I can never understand why you don't contest every lineout ball (not talking about 5m line outs) ? Why would you make it easy for the other team ?

Because the jumper and 2 lifters are then not ready to defend a maul or even backline attack if the other side get a quick ball.

So you just make it easier for them to get a clean ball to maul with or to get to the backline :)
Well they already have a good chance of getting the ball anyway, if you jump or not. So now you just want to make it easier for them to maul and score a try?

Team for Saturday's match against Australia.

South Africa: 15 Willie le Roux, 14 Cheslin Kolbe, 13 Jesse Kriel, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Kurt-Lee Arendse, 10 Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, 9 Cobus Reinach, 8 Elrigh Louw, 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 6 Siya Kolisi (captain), 5 RG Snyman, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Bongi Mbonambi, 1 Ox Nche.

Replacements: 16 Malcolm Marx, 17 Gerhard Steenekamp, 18 Vincent Koch, 19 Ben-Jason Dixon, 20 Marco van Staden, 21 Kwagga Smith, 22 Grant Williams, 23 Handré Pollard.

Cracking good side! Stoked to see Marx and PSdT are fit and picked.

A lot depends on where on the field the lineout is taking place. Lineouts usually go uncontested because the players are set to defend the lineout maul but teams are unlikely to worry about a lineout maul deep in the opponents half... in fact defending the lineout maul is an imperative usually only in your own 22...

Very good side but we've seen many a proper side go to Brisbane and lose. It's the Aussies Ellis Park/Eden Park...

I fee like in recent times, the Aussies have adopted a very negative, spoiling game plan against us, ostensibly to nullify our superiority and we have been sucked into that game plan. Not to mention some truly bizarre calls going against us (Nick White's Oscar worthy performance and Koirobete's "tackle" on Mapimpi being examples).

If we can avoid playing down to the Wallabies' level and stick to and execute our game plan, we should easily have their number.

Law changes can have repercussions, unexpected. Lets say you a team that doesn't want to scrum SA, just time out setting for the scrum and give SA the free kick instead of a scrum...

Unintended consequence, mmmmh. It looks like the other team's not gonna contest, I throw the ball straight to my own scrumhalf and hope the other team doesn't jump?
Looks to me like this will force the defending team to always contest. This will open the door for the attackers to maul, leading to more and more boring mauls with them already being so difficult to defend.

I wonder what qualifies as contesting, if just the lock jumps without being lifted, does it count as contesting, otherwise you can just always have one bloke jumping and then the rule is nullified.
