So why aren't we number 1 in the rankings again after the big win over Argentina.

From what I understand Ireland haven't played any games recently, and it was our loss to Arg that put us second, so shouldn't a win put us number 1 again?
I think it's because Argentina are currently at 6 in the rankings, a loss to them affects our ranking more than a win against them.

My current pecking order would be:
  1. HP
  2. SFM
  3. Manie
And then I'd give Nohambo and Masuku a run to see how they do at test level too.
theres also a strong tonyball case for starting a game with manie and bringing HP on if things arent going as planned...

bases seem to be covered IMO...

to quote eddie jones... "come and join us in the modern game...its a 23 man game"

all this doom and gloom is seriously unwarranted.

Where did you pick up any doom and gloom from?

Ireland play their next game on 8 Nov against NZ. If NZ win or it's a draw we go back to the top.

A team can only gain ranking points if they are 10 points or less ahead on ranking points than the team they are playing.

The higher ranked team always takes considerably less points from those ranked lower. A little bit more when playing away.

The home team gets 3 pointa added to their tally, so for example if the Boks are on 90 and Wales are on 78 they would take points of they played Wales in Wales because Wales would get +3 putting them on 81. So within the 10 pt margin.

However, if the Boks played them at home, even if Wales were on 82 ordinarily, the boks would get 0 because they would jump from 90 to 93 by virtue of playing home.

If Wales won they would take massive points by being so far behind, more so if they won by more than 15 points.

That is why the team ranked first has the hardest job of staying there because the teams you tlcan take points from is less and you gain a tiny bit by primarily playing the top 6 or so only.

It makes NZs long time at number 1 so much more impressive when you take all of that into account.

What great time we live in being Bok supporters.
Is Rassie the greatest Bok coach of all time?
Is Kolisi the greatest Bok captain of all time?
Is Etzebeth the greatest Springbok player of all time
Is Pieter Steph du Toit the greatest Bok loose forward of all time?
Is Pollard the greatest Bok flyhalf of all time?
Is Kolbe the greatest Bok backline player of all time?

Is Rassie the greatest Bok coach of all time? - I'd say so.
Is Kolisi the greatest Bok captain of all time? - Probably.
Is Etzebeth the greatest Springbok player of all time - No.
Is Pieter Steph du Toit the greatest Bok loose forward of all time? - Best 7 in the modern era. Schalk Burger is still the youngest world player of the year winner of all time.
Is Pollard the greatest Bok flyhalf of all time? - Not even close. Naas is baas.
Is Kolbe the greatest Bok backline player of all time? - Naas is also a backline player but if we exclude 10s then Gerber is probably a better player.

What great time we live in being Bok supporters.
Is Rassie the greatest Bok coach of all time? - without doubt
Is Kolisi the greatest Bok captain of all time? - without doubt, who's better?
Is Etzebeth the greatest Springbok player of all time - hmmmm...
Is Pieter Steph du Toit the greatest Bok loose forward of all time? - hmmmm...
Is Pollard the greatest Bok flyhalf of all time? - 2nd to Naas
Is Kolbe the greatest Bok backline player of all time? - 2nd to Gerber

Yeah not to start an argument but as rugby is a contact sport I do not care how great someone could kick a ball. If he was so afraid of contact that he would literally sidestep or run away from a tackle like a coward, I would never choose Naas as the best. Not a great example for young players.

And yet he somehow managed to win the Currie Cup NINE times (playing in 11 finals).

For all you said about being a contact sport, it's still won and lost on the scoreboard.

As long as everybody in this thread realize that YOU are the alpha and omega of rugby knowledge... always right and everybody else is always wrong.

You even display the same kak attitude in the Braai Thread...

The idea that you can exclude goal-kicking from a discussion about how good a player was, is just crazy.

You literally describing yourself all over MBB.
I have never said I am right and others are wrong. Its called an opinion. But it seems that you think my opinions are always right.
So thanks, I guess.

Ok this is really my last post on this topic. I just ignore these arguing in circles on MBB. I have done it now for 3 pages but its enough. Everything is there for everyone to read and make their minds up.

Yes I gave it to you already. You said he is a 90% kicker. He is not. Even your friend gave stats for only the last 2 seasons and still he is not a 90% kicker.
OH and please before the next stupid point. I know already what it is. Just remember before you type it, I can look for tournaments or even games where Manie average 90% or higher. Thats not how stats work.
If you round off his stats to the nearest 90%, then he is a 90% kicker.

Argument finished now.
