That Senatla yellow card yesterday is why I've lost a lot of interest in watching rugby. Absolutely nothing the player can do if the opponent slips and now there is head contact. That shouldn't even be a penalty, nevermind a yellow, simply a rugby incident. I completely understand the reasoning for minimizing head contact, but unfortunately in a contact sport it will always happen.

When that happened, I just switched over to watching something else. This year's World Cup is going to be decided by ridiculous yellow and red card decisions.

Didn't see this incident yesterday but...

Man... We had such a fallout yesterday at the Grade 1 Bulletjie rugby due to accidental contact being made. Spoiled the game for everybody.

Kids were having a ball and our one player side stepped the other team and accidentally ran into one of the boys on the other team. Massive collision but no tears or anything. Kids got back up after a few groans and moans and just wanted to keep on playing.

That was until the dad/coach from the other team made a big issue out of it and started berating our player and coaches for making contact in a non-contact version of the game. The more everybody tried to explain to him it was a simple accident and these things will happen with 14 boys running about on such a smallish pitch, the more he wanted to cry about the spirit of the game and the safety of the kids, blah blah blah....
No chance of having a sensible conversation with this dude. Even his own kid tried telling him it was no issue and he just wants to continue playing.

It would have been one thing if the players intentionally tried running over opponents, but it was a simple case of two boys stepping into the same path with no way to stop before colliding.

Because of that they wasted 5min of game time arguing, and all the kids were so reserved and scared to commit 100% for the rest of the game.

And in Bulletjie rugby it was this same parent who was the actual referee slash coach on the field with the kids. Supposed to be the voice of reason in a fast-paced, semi-unstructured version of the game, meant to be purely for fun and getting the boys accustomed to a team dynamic.

I lost hope in Rugby also but for different reasons.

We used to get smashed in Super Rugby which was sort off okay because it being NZL and they always had one up on us.

Now we shifted north which is nice time zone wise and now we have a situation where these European teams come to SA for the first time and get the win. What message are we sending out to the world when we allow young academy players from Ireland come to SA for the first time and pull off a win against what I say is full strength teams? We go Europe and all our full-strength teams get hidings of note.

What message are we sending out. It's embarrassing. I know a lot of players are playing in EU etc but still Leinster sent an academy side and they got the win. Munster took a hiding from The Sharks but the Stormers throw away their unbeaten home record away against them.

It's not a good look at all. At least I know when the Boks play it's a bit structured and has strength so we can knock over any nation but at club level I guess we just have to take whatever we get. The ppor results from the weekend isn't a dept issue at all and it's not because we are playing multiple leagues we are out of the HCC and playing at home will all the players available bar a few injuries which the EU teams also have.

Ireland has 4 teams and all 4 won this weekend against proper opponents. We are the punching bags of the rugby world and I hate it.

I hear you and partly agree. Unfortunately, our currency is shite and a huge number of our best players are thus earning a living elsewhere. That's unfortunately a reality that I've made peace with and part of the reason I don't watch much local rugby any longer. How can one support and have pride in your teams, when you know they're nowhere near the best we've got?

I wonder how many of the players currently in our local teams, would still make the cut if all those overseas ones were here. I doubt that half would still make the team. Ireland does not have the same problem and one needs to keep this perspective.

Yes, Leinster came here with youngsters, but let's be honest, the current Lions team is not very good, to put it mildly. How many of their players would be rated in the top 3 in their position, hardly any.
 
Extremely disappointed in the Stormers and Lions. Especially the Lions leading by such a big margin and tossing it away in the end. We just don't have the BMT & professionalism of the Irish sides. Even worse losing on your home turf and to a "B" side.
 
At least for the Stormers, they have another home game, then two weeks break before another home game in the quarters.

That should help freshen them up a bit. If they make the semi-final a week later and get past that away from home they have another 2 week break before the final.

The Stormers will bounce back again, that Senatla yellow was a load of ****. Last week Exeter really played the game of their lives, and the Stormers could not prepare well enough due to the travel buggerup. Its sad that we couldn't make it further, but its our first Heineken Cup, so its okay for now. We are still in a good position to win the URC. You forgot to mention how the bulls smashed their opponents - don't underestimate Jake White, he will make the Bulls bounce back. The lions however is useless. I think they and the Currie Cup winners should have promotion/relegation game.

The Boks also still stand a good chance at winning the worldcup which is even enhanced by the fact that we are now deemed as underdogs.

So no we are not the punching bags of world rugby.

Looking at the Log it's very possible that the sharks or the bulls will fall out of the URC Top 7 and subsequently not qualify for the Champions Cup next year because the 8th spot is reserved for a Welsh team.

If Connacht gets 5 points against Glasgow, then it doesn't matter if the Bulls or The Sharks get 5 points, they will either be at 7 or 8th spot which means whoever is at 8th gets knocked out to make place for a Welsh team so the fact that we might only have 2 SA teams in the HCC and URC playoffs is pretty sad.

I can't see how either can get a 5 pointer this weekend.

Wouldn't make much sense tbh, since the unions in the Currie Cup act as conveyor belts for the four URC franchise teams, and they aren't specifically franchises...

I'd rather suggest, combining the Lions and Cheetahs franchise teams into the Cats once again for the URC. In that way, Lions would improve and Cheetahs won't be in this weird cringe limbo anymore that they have been in for the past few years.

I kinda agree with @cavedog but maybe not for the same reasons. It's not about "We always lose, we are never good enough...", etc...

Rather we (SA) are constantly vilified by the rest of the rugby world (especially the Anglosphere as I call them (UK, IRE, NZL, AUS) and more recently FRA). We're treated like the big villains of the world.

Countless times there are double standards when it comes to us and everyone else...
  • Everyone else can complain about the refereeing, but not us otherwise we're whiny, etc.
  • Every other coach can complain and even go to the media about the previous point, but when Rassie posts a vid on Twitter, it's a war crime and he gets suspended.
  • The way we play is perpetually criticized... Not because it's necessarily bad, but sheerly over the way we play

I think if a URC team wins the EPCR that number is reduced to 6? So only top 6 qualify for Heineken?

Won't change unless we get rid of thr victim mentality.

We used to be known as the tough buggers, often calles dirty and steroid abusers.

Now we are not only called dirty but whiners.

I'd like them to explain how we keep churning out giant locks though. Height can't be due to drugs.
 
Roos and Orie are big liabilities to this stormers team.

They have big anger issues.

It is. It won't be the iconic Boks v All Blacks game without the home colors. But it seems SA Rugby and NZ Rugby are going to disobey this (rightfully so).

It seems like it's widely opposed even by former players like Jannie Du Plessis and Paulse (saw them swatting this idea down last night on T&T).

The thing with Roos was dumb, I don't think it was worth a card, maybe a penalty sure, but not a card. But what I find ****ing hilarious is how the ref only saw Roos on the TMO but completely ignored one of the Benetton players choke holding Ruben Van Heerden while he was on the ground (Nr. 4).

Same with Senatla, oke tries to contest the ball, he's the one who gets off worst, gets taken off the field with a stretcher and everything, but still yellow-cards him over 'realistic position'...
