Well what a sad weekend. All SA teams knocked out of the Champions cup.

As it is I find it hard to believe that any SA team will be able to win the challenge cup.
Didnt even know we were playing

Its an irrelevant competition

We way out of our depth. Focus has to continue to be URC...

If that is the case we need to win it. If we slip up again and not win it then we basically lost everything so I hope any one of our teams can win it.

During yesterday's game, shortly before scoring his try, Hanekom tackled a guy about 25m back. Anyone know where I can get that video clip?

We will always be on a hiding to nothing in the Champions Cup. Especially when playing overseas. The sooner you accept that and lower your expectations, the better off you'll be.

Apart from Bulls and half of lions, I wasn't able to watch the other games this weekend. Did our teams field full strength teams?

Nope. Stormers had a few first choice players watching from the stands with a view to resting them before next week's huge URC clash with Leinster at the Aviva and the Sharks were missing the likes of Esterhuizen, Fassi and Etzebeth through injury.

Both were playing French sides away though and French club rugby right now has to be at an all time HIGH, brushing aside all before them.

They are really unstoppable. Look at the hiding the Leicester Tigers got from Toulouse. Damn and I though The Sharks was the worst.

Shouldn't it be worrying the way we got smashed. Its like back in the day when crusaders used to klap us.
Not if we were fielding half-arsed teams. Lions and Bulls both put strong XV on the field and smashed their opposition.

Having said that, Stormers still need a coach and the Sharks, I don't know what the Sharks need. Maybe a good kick up the dorsal fin or something.

We just don't have the depth or the money to field top class internationals like the French teams. The talent that we do have at our disposal must now also be spread to play throughout the whole year, (as opposed to a few years ago where there was an "off-season" between Dec. to Feb.), but coaches don't want to see the top guys get hurt. Plus players need to rest or suffer fatique/burnout/injury. We want to do well but can't afford it at this stage. Bit of a catch-22 situation.

Spot on. It's really as simple as that.

Our talent pool barely extends past our borders.

Other than Ben Loader, I don't think there's a single foreigner representing one of our franchises.

In sharp contrast look how many South Africans are playing abroad!!!

Correct. Then you look at some French teams and they will have English/Scottish/Argentinian/Fijian, etc. and also a Saffa in their squads. Spoilt for choice!

SA Rugby and Coca-Cola enter exciting new partnership

SA Rugby and Coca-Cola announced a groundbreaking new four-year partnership on Thursday, reigniting a collaboration that spans more than three decades which will see the world-famous red and white logo appear on the playing shorts of all the national teams in green and gold.

The new partnership includes the reigning world champions, the Springboks, as well as the Springbok Women, Springbok Sevens men and women, as well as the Junior Springbok teams.

As part of the new sponsorship, Coca-Cola branding will feature on all the Springbok teams’ playing shorts, kicking off on Friday when the Blitzboks take the field at the HSBC SVNS Perth.

SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer welcomed the partnership: “We are thrilled to have Coca-Cola return as a partner. Their long-standing commitment to South African rugby has been instrumental in the development of the sport.

“This new chapter will help us achieve sustainable and inclusive growth, providing us with the support needed to nurture talent and engage with fans across the nation. We look forward to the positive outcomes this partnership will bring.”

Sergio Vieira, Vice President of Franchise Operations for Coca-Cola South Africa, said: “Our partnership with SA Rugby Union is driven by our shared values and our strong legacy of sports sponsorship and community upliftment in the country.”

Coca-Cola’s longstanding history of supporting South African rugby includes the first time the Springboks were crowned world champions in 1995, and the development of the sport through the Coca-Cola Rugby School of Excellence and the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks, amongst other notable initiatives.

“We’re proud to support SA Rugby in their mission to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth of the sport by returning with a robust partnership designed to drive impact and support the growth of the sport across all levels. We look forward to a new journey that will pave the way for more historic achievements with our national teams,” added Vieira.
