Mangaung ANC threatens its councillors with polygraph tests after losing speaker post

The ANC in Mangaung is threatening to subject its councillors in Mangaung to polygraph tests.

This after some of them defied the party line and voted for DA Councillor Maryke Davies as the new Speaker of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality.

The majority ANC-led council saw power slip out of its hands as Davies was elected Speaker, notwithstanding that her party only has 26 seats compared to the ANC's 51 in the 101-seat council.

She received a resounding 53 votes out of 93 valid votes on the day.

The ANC in the province is said to be targeting councillors who have been expressing displeasure over the outcomes of the ANC's Free State conference held in January.

They have her, John Jeffery (Spelling?), Deputy Minister of Justice and ol' Dugmore here in WC. But none of them are in national/big ANC leadership roles.

I'd love to see the standard used for the DA and the complaining about "black leaders" used on other parties...

To emphasise.
ANC and EFF leadership: all black

VF+ leadership: all white

DA leadership:

Unfortunately the reality is that 99%+ of media editors and journalists are firmly ensconced in the ANC paradigm and dogma. If they are not ANC card carrying members (a lot of them are), then they are at the very least highly supportive of their policies and brand. The DA has always been the antithesis to the ANC, so by definition the media stuck up their noses to it.

The media frame their hatred for the DA first, then look for reasons to justify it second. So they will amplify (and manufacture) everything they can as negative and mostly ignore anything positive. And for about 20 years did the opposite for the ANC.

The fact that now everything is crumbling as was easily predicted by the DA for the past 20 years doesn't change anything. The egotistical media can never admit defeat and just harden their stance and put up ever higher walls. Now the story is that there is "no alternative" and that there never has been one. The fact that the Western Cape is the last liveable outpost in SA is kind of just brushed aside as an inconvenient truth.

That's a hell of alot of defectors...could mean many by-elections actually if they are fired from the party. But Manguang is still an ANC area so I don't have much hope that it would result in the ANC losing those by-elections.
We can only hope. If the ANC loses a single seat, it will lose its majority in Bloem and be forced to coalesce to stay in power (will most likely get PA). If they lose more to the opposition, it could open a gap for a UF takeover of Mangaung.

What race is Barbra Creecy?

Isn't Action SA diverse?
She's the sole white on the NEC team of 80 and sits about half way on the list of NEC officials.

ANC diverse ? There are other white ANC members why were they not put forward by the branches and regions.

When parliament was voting to have an investigation into Phala Phala last year and there was a roll call, I was quite surprised by the number of white Afrikaans ANC MPs. To be sure, it was only 5-10 MPs, but still, I'd expect the number to be zero. But yes, I agree with the overall thrust of your argument.

Neither in leadership nor in vote share.

This is not true on a per capita basis.

There is no question that the DA get a lot more votes than Action SA (by being a more established party) but Action SA did win wards across the racial divide (in townships and urban areas) in 2021 which the DA have not yet done.

On a per capita basis, Action SA's support is almost certainly more diverse than DA, largely because they campaign around the message on reducing immigration which is more relatable to different people.

Also, your claim about the leadership is very questionable. The wards they won in suburbs were the result of the former DA member (most often white) defecting and taking their following along.

Groenewald was a mayor during apartheid so maybe they should phrase it that we have 'roots in apartheid'.

Yes.

He was mayor of Stilfontein in the 80s under the Conservative Party. It was the party that believed the National Party was too moderate and which campaigned for the no vote during the 1992 referendum.

Always laughable how his party moan about quotas when he supported it through WEE reservations under the old regime

The VF+ was formed as a merger of various (Afrikaner interest orientated groups), among them the CP which is how Oom Pieter found himself in the VF+.

Zille's answer was good for what it was, a reply to a stupid race bating journalist.

No sensible person should be playing this demographics game were you try and balance racial representation.

There is nothing wrong with the EFF being all black that is irrelevant. EFF's problems are far greater than that. White people can be communist idiots to.

There's also nothing wrong with VF+ being all white. They are currently the best political party we have.

And Mandela was a terrorist.

This is a stupid argument.
