Demarcation hearings by the demarcation board happen all the time.
Its a public participation process and anyone affected can submit their arguments. I'm sure that the DA with their expensive lawyers will do so.

In the SA context, as I remember it, the Nats did a great job of gerrymandering; even though they lacked a majority they fiddled the constituencies such that rural Afrikaans constituencies with say 10 000 voters had one MP whereas an urban constituency with 20 000 also only had one. Thus in their first election "win" they, the Nats, did not get the majority of votes but did get a majority of MPS's. The rest is history, noting that the apartheid loving Nats never had a huge majority in terms of actual numbers of votes. All pale of course and plenty room for correction in what I "remember" of this stuff.
Sutcliffe is/was the ANC's version as an architect of this gerrymandering; IMHO of course.

Where did the votes go to then? The PFP (which wanted reform) led by Helen Suzmann had very little support yet a lot of people somehow supported Suzmann these days but nobody supported NP.
Unless Nats somehow rigged the elections, evidence suggests they dominated and the liberal opposition had very little support. The only party under Apartheid that gave the Nats some challenge was the CP which believed they were too moderate when they eventually realized they had to let go of some aspects of Apartheid.
