The SA Politics Thread Part 3

Ignoring the typical "DA MUST OBEY US" ASA rhetoric... Here are the possible outcomes today:
  • ANC/EFF wins
  • No outright winner which would lead to:
    • Mpho going to the second round and other Moonshot okes vote for her begrudgingly
    • The ASA candidate goes to the second round and DA votes or abstains for the candidate
The ANC-EFF will win because they have the PA's support again.
The coalition thing unfortunately shows up the DA. Why is it all the former coalition members are going together while the DA remain on their own?

DA doesn't want to work with PA, so they're just doing what ASA did in EKH.

Remain outside the coalition, but support them where they can. In a way, it's better, because if the ASA candidate somehow gets the votes from PA and EFF and is voted in, they could just sit and watch on the sidelines when either PA or EFF betray the other Moonshot okes once again... And this time the DA could just go "It ain't our fault. This is why we didn't want to work with PA/EFF /shrug". Taking away the option of the other okes to once again blame DA.

They never lost the PAs support if you ask me... The PA just played them for more positions and such

As for the coalition, why go for a new candidate when you have one who has experience as being the mayor and was actually starting to achieve things?? Seems like coalition is being petty and trying to cockblock the DA for no other reason than 'DA being big brother'

Precisely.

When Mpho was mayor and especially in the run-up to Congress, the other okes (especially ASA) were full of praise for her, saying she should be DA leader, etc, etc. But now it seems that praise has dried up...

You'd think that they'd back her to be Mayor again? Nope.

The "DA big brother/arrogance" meme is getting boring now.
As coalitions are atm, there'll always be a "big brother" i.e. without them, there is no reasonable chance of a majority coalition... And these big brothers are mostly ANC or DA... (Excl. IFP in KZN since I'm talking on national scale). Until we have a situation were parties more or less have the same support levels, this will continue...

Lets have new elections so we can vote out IFP, FF+, ACDP and ASA.

"We had a working arrangement in the metro, and our coalition partners were singing Phalatse's praises. What changed? We can't just change our minds daily. Should our partners remain adamant on voting for their candidate, then the instability we are seeing now will continue," Msimanga said.
