The SA Politics Thread Part 3

Some countries are set up like that.
Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina rotate the President among a set number of members.
Yeah, it's legislated ain't it?

But I rather propose it out of pragmatism, seeing that it's gonna be a tug of war over the Presidency... Get the top three parties from Moonshot (Will probably be DA, ASA and IFP, in that order.) and split the 5 years between them. Maybe put a "focus" on each presidency too, e.g. Johnno's Presidency will focus on fixing the economy, dealing with SOEs, social stuff, etc. Mashaba's focuses on law enforcement, perhaps further economic and social reforms, etc. And Hlabisa's focuses on political and social reforms, home affairs, etc.

the VF+ and IFP have more in common than the DA and VF+.
Yeah, I said this long ago. If you remove the specific "nationalism"/ethnic groups they specifically target (Zulus and Afrikaans/Afrikaners respectively), there is a lot of overlap between IFP and VF+ ideology and policies.

The DA isn't an ethnic party nor are they right-wing like either IFP or VF+. So...

Biz News have a bit of a habit of exaggerating so I highly doubt they are properly representing Oom Groenewald's views.
Forget about a white President

I don’t think it should be a white man.
I’m on record in the media in South Africa where I said it doesn’t mean that the strongest political party in the coalition leader is necessarily the president. We must get a competent person. I am very realistic. I said I’m not politically correct. If you want the voters from the ANC to get away from the ANC, you’re not going to get them away with a white potential president. It’s a fact. People normally shy away from race In South Africa. Race plays a very important role in South Africa. And yes, I was strongly criticised because I said that, but I keep my view on that… If a white is the leader of the strongest opposition party, let’s take John Steenhuisen, if they are forming a coalition, he’s going to be the president. Then of course, what the ANC is going to say, oh, you’re now going back to apartheid. And they use a term they call it ‘baas’ which means boss. They say, are you going to vote for the baas again? I know they do it because people speak to me, they talk to me. Therefore, I already said that and in the coalition negotiations, I already said, Well, you may differ from me, but if you want to get the votes from the ANC, forget about a white president.
Velenkosini Hlabisa for President

There are competent leaders from the other political parties. Let’s take, for instance, I personally at this moment think that the honourable Hlabisi, the leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party, is an intelligent man and he’s a good candidate for president in South Africa. So, there are other leaders that can be a good president in South Africa.
From the article.

You indicated they should merge which wont work though. They disagree fundamentally on other issues like religion etc. VF+ are mostly strong Bible believing Xians and while most Zulus identify loosely as Xian and adopt elements of Xianity into their culture, they have plenty of aspects which are considered heathen by your NG Kerk types.
